Why? People are saying Seguin is better NOW then Kessel is NOW...a 57pt difference over 2years says that Seguin isn't close...

So are we done discussing Brian Burke and what a poor job he's done? Just asking.

Let's talk about Gillis and how he doesn't know how to draft.

Burke is such a bad GM that his Vancouver Canucks have won the President's Trophy two years running.

Do you REALLY think that the Leafs would be able to get both Getzlaf and Perry?

And fill other needs? Such as a shutdown Dman to play with Phaneuf (Scuderi, pretty good) and a goalie (Luongo).

Getzlaf, on the open market, will be pretty expensive. So we'll have to throw the check book at him. Especially since other teams will try to sign him also.

- jbold

honestly youd be surprised man. If one goes, the other may follow. And perry is from ontario So probably likes toronto. I dont understand how other people can say oh players hate the leafs. Pretty sure guys from hometowns would enjoy playing just as much as parise went back to minny. Didnt stamkos say after his contract ends in tampa that he wants to end his career with the leafs? done and done.

To take the cake for the worst comment in a Leafs blog is really hard to do. So, just so we're clear, you want to build through the draft, even though we currently have around 10 first rounders in our system and another 25 drafts would be hard pressed to match the quality of said players (Kessel, Phaneuf, Lupul, JVR, Kadri, Percy, Rielly, etc) Thats your idea'? That idea is very very stupid. Only a moron would look at the team as its currently consituted and not be able to see that they have a really really good foundation to build upon. Burke has done a commendable job and I have no tolerance for idiots who disagree. You can't disagree with facts my friends.

this is what he should compare as mentioned already

NHL totals

Age 18
Seguin - 11-11-22
Kessel - 0-0-0

Age 19
Seguin - 29-38-67
Kessel - 11-18-29

Total
Seguin - 40-49-89
Kessel - 11-18-29

Right now is when we need a 20 year old Center coming into his 3rd year in the NHL ready the break out. After that, we need to add a Kessel

Backstrom is one of the best centres in the league, but just look at the other comments this guy makes, so who cares.

And anyone who thinks the number one centre thing isnt over blown is an idiot.

Look, centres are important but what is key is having 2 players on the same line who demand the attention of the other teams best defensemen. The gap between the 1 and 2 D man is usually incredible and if you can draw the second guy to your best player that is how you score.

Lupul and Kessel, until Lupul got injured, where top 5 in scoring. Just how many more points would they have gotten if they had an elite centre? Not many.

Thats not to say it isnt important to have a centre, but saying "most teams who win the cup have one" is disengenous because most teams have a top centre. Theres like 20 of them in a 30 team league. So your argument is a false equivalency.

What you NEED on a hockey team is 2 guys on the same line who can draw the D away from each other. Secondly, you need a second line that can score. With JVR the Leafs have a solid second line now.

Anyone who thinks the Leafs would be or cant be an elite team until they get the mythical number one centre is stupid. Sure a centre is a good thing to have, but to align your team by position never works. You don't say "we need a centre more than we need a winger" you say "I want the best player available". Seguin plays for a stacked team on a line with Bergeron, who , after Elias, is the most under rated hockey player in the world, Seguin is a solid player, but Phil Kessel is a dynamic superstar.

Ok lets do that, he hasn't drafted a single player that's made an impact in the NHL in his four years in Vancouver. Not frickin ONE! Even though he's drafted late late into the draft, I'd say you're onto something there.

Yeah, smart idea comparing them as 18 year olds. Kessel had a terrible year when he was 18, cause he almost played a full game once.

But you guys are comparing a 20 year old center to a 24-25 year old who is a winger. We have had absolutely 0 centermans since Sundin left. Is one of the many reasons why we suck. Grabo is our only decent centerman

Yawn! Your comparison makes no sense. You are comparing a guy who broke in on an average team to a guy who broke in on one of the league's best teams. Plus, some of those stats are fictional. Also, I don't give a fkc anymore, its like arguing with a child.

Adam Oates didn't get his first NHL point until he was 23 years old. Seguin is gonna have a way better career than Adam Oates did, right?

Dude i thought the same as you, who cares about centers. Kessel and Lupul set each other up, etc acquire so many points who needs a center. I get your point. But im saying look at the age of seguin, look at dougie hamilton ripping the OHL and is gunna carry team canada juniours. In reality we desperately needed a first line center. Acquiring a first line center is very difficult as you can see down the years since we have had no luck. The reason i am saying seguin i would of preferred is for this reason.
