Doing quick math, it's about $140 a seat.

That won't get you in the lower bowl in Toronto.

Its discounted for season tickets. Individual prices are higher than that.

Tired of people saying they are done with the NHL. Easy to say that now with no NHL hockey to speak of. Wait until it comes back, these so called "hard-core hockey fans who gave up" will be watching hockey again. They may not be as invested at first, but they will be back. It's the casual fan the NHL will loose. And they won't be writing any poopty letter like this, rather they will just ignore hockey entirely.

Easy to give up something you don't have, try giving up NHL hockey when it's made available to you, then a letter like this might have some impact. Everyone who loves the NHL is pissed.

I'm not pissed. I'm angry for the lost jobs and revenues for business' who depend on the NHL but as a die hard fan I seriously hope this lockout lasts 2-3 years and results in many teams folding and many lost NHL player jobs.

Dear Anyone who gives a crap,

I only go to games when I get tickets, which used to be somewhat often becaiuse my father's employer (before it went bankrupt and in turn bankrupted him) used to give us tickets once a season growing up. I was extremely fortunate to attend games and one day hope to be able to buy my own tickets, but I live near Toronto so I could probably just save up and buy the Columbus Blue Jackets instead of going to one measley Leaf game, but that is beside the point. I watch 82 games per year + a divorce-inducing amount of non-Leafs playoff hockey. I play 5 hockey pools, own a $250 Phaneuf jersey, and even have a Masters degree in English/Literature which I hope to parlay into a job writing about hockey one day. (Note to anyone reading this, I need a job).

That being said, the second hockey comes back, I'll celebrate harder than I did when Obama won the Presidency. I will be pumped.

I can't for the life of me understand why someone would stop doing something they like and enjoy just because some corperate suits are selfish and greedy. The NHL lockout has no effect on how I feel about hockey. I love it. I want to watch the best players in the world play and I will pay what I can afford, as I always do, when they come back.

I understand being pissed off, but really, you would only be hurting yourself. The NHL is not going to lose too much of their fanbase, and over time, almost none of it. Not enough to put them out of business anyways, and acting like an overtly emotional whiner is of no help to anyone. Do they deserve your money? No, probably not, but that doesn't change the fact that by quitting, you only hurt you.

I mean, if the transit in your city went on strike, would you boycott busses? I mean, if you needed them to get to work you'd only be hurting yourself and with hockey, its no different: if you need it to distract yourself from the fact that America almost elected an actual evil robot to run the world, then yeah, its not Bettmen or Iginla who loses, its you.

Remember this: collective bargaining sucks, but its better than seeing people exploited, and before you tell me that you would play in the NHL for 45K, remember that these are the best 700 people in the world at doing what they do, do you know anyone who is among the best 700 at anything? Its insane how rare it is to have that skill and if someone can make a bazillion dollars off of it, you better be compensated fairly. I don't care whose right or wrong, just suggesting a little understanding and patience would go along way.

The people who come on to a hockey website to say "I'm done" were the same people saying that "america is done so I am leaving" when Obama won his second term. And he we are, 3 weeks later, the sky didn't fall, Jesus didn't come here and set is all on fire. The world still turns. As it will when the Toronto Cannucks face off against the Montreal (insert some really french canadian sounding word) in the New professional hockey league in North America.

I think it'safe to say that the majority of all NHL fans are "lifers". I'm really not sure who this letter is supposed to sway. It's certainly not going to garner much sympathy from most of us fans when someone who has apparently experienced 1000 times more in the game of hockey than even the most avid fan could dream of and who can apparently afford to pay more for season tickets per year than I can my own house is saying I've had enough... Seems a little smug and self serving to say the least.

Even if I'm a player or owner I have a hard time feeling bad for someone who's obviously enjoyed a pretty comfortable and pleasure filled life...

Besides, someone who has apparently rubbed elbows with so many of the biggest names in the NHL among many others and spent over a quarter million dollars in the last ten years on hockey is calling it quits because the game hasn't given him enough back?

Give me hardship stories, stories from real blue collar folks that have supported this game and league that barely have a pot to piss in, not ones from people who are obviously entitled to own $25000 worth of season tickets and hob knob with the high brow community of the NHL.

I think this story might have had the opposite effect that Ek was going for...

This is right up there with the classic "adopt an NHL player" spoof. Good times

THis is rage inducing . I know it sucks for people who depend on the nhl to make their money, but the NHL doesnt owe these people anything. IN fact, they should than hockey for existing and giving them a better living. People bi tch when the NHL goes on strike, but where are they when they are playing. NEver heard a waitress say "thank god for the nhl, i made huge tips tonight".

All i m saying is that its nice you usually have a good job because of the NHL but the NHL owes you nothing. Its not their responsibility to make sure that waitresses and ushers and other ancillary positions are taken care of.

NO I have a job, I just don't have a job writing about hockey. Plus, I could have bought it three years ago after winning a proline. I mean seriously, its embarrassing I have to say this because you sound pathetic, knitpicking about every little detail. Was there no spelling errors to cry about or something?

I have to say that I am die hard fan who spends about $2k per year on tickets and I have completely lost interest in this lockout.

I vow that I will never buy tickets in this city again. I'll go to games if I score free tickets but I will not spend anther $ on tickets nor will i buy any concessions once there.

Problem is that it means nothing because if I don't t buy then there is a lineup of people behind me who will.

I have never won a stanley cup..I have never had the good fortune of playing pro hockey.I work a miserable 40 hour a week job with no chance of OT.. I hate what I do but do to marketplace I must shut up and punch the clock each day. I am divorced and my child never gets to rub noses with anyone in hockey. I looked forward to watching NHL each year as a stress relief and for enjoyment. I am not hurt I am PISSED off
