Someone posted this story here a few weeks ago. I think EK should put a permanent link to it on this site.
Teams in the red are most likely basing the numbers off HRR ONLY(hockey related revenue) but as the article clarifies, there are many ways to skin a cat and rich men don't get/stay rich by holding onto a losing venture. This plays to the side of the NHLPA and why they are reluctant to jump at the current offers on the table.

Great find. Hopefully there can be another CBA in which both sides do well.

Is this meeting still going on, or are they putting some sort of media block on it? There hasn't really been much going on it seems. |

Meeting is over. Mediators met with both groups individually to see where they both stand. They are meeting again tomorrow, face to face this time.
Neither side made comments....except saying they are meeting again tomorrow (NHLPA said that). |

I'm glad it's face to face so the mediator can knock the NHLPA and owners heads together. |

It would be best if NO ONE who is a party to this, and none of the PA commented whatsoever until they either have a deal or they are cancelling the season.
I mean everything they say is rhetoric and spin and crap so just STFU and get it done, or hopefully not.

Since neither party wants to move from their position, they are still fighting for the public opinion. You can expect the minute the mediation process is over and they are allowed to speak, they will be back at it. It's part of Fehr's strategy, put as much pressure as possible on the owners with the public opinion. The league has responded every time and so far, I think the fans are just getting bored by the BS from both side. Apathy is gaining ground and the more they speak, the more it will become the norm. |

Wonder how many other teams outright own / co-own the arena where they play.
Boy if this list didn't scream, "MOVE MORE TEAMS TO CANADA", nothing will. Look at the Jets: $200M worth, over $13M OI. Take half of those teams in the bottom 3rd and move them North of the border.
I for one would like to see at least 10 Canadian teams.

A good writeup on Fehr, and his Mentor Miller - steveb12344
There's some good points, and some very bad points. Beginning with the first major point he makes and what question Fehr should have asked Bettman. That is a question Bettman should be asking. And in light of how the negotiations started, it's a pretty silly premise by the author. |

But there isn't an unending supply of really good players who will play professional Hockey. And make it worthwhile to spend a boatload of money to watch play! - MJL
Yes, in fact, there is; for the NHL's purposes anyway. |

When was the last CBA Fehr negotiated again?

It's very possible -- even likely -- Fehr erred badly and irrecoverably in failing to negotiate off the proposal the owners put forward to players on Oct. 16 in Toronto. That was nearly four missed pay days ago for his constituents.
No matter what deal he secures for the players at this point, the players as a whole will suffer monetarily. The star players signed to the 10 year contracts won't suffer (other than the missed wages this year) but the 90% of the league that will need new contracts in the next 2 -3 years will find less and less money available for them when it comes time to sign.
The articles is correct in that the numbers one priority should've been how to grow the league revenues. The future is in growing the pie, not haggling over their next paycheck.
I still believe the football method would've been best. No rollbacks but also no guaranteed contracts (I know it won't happen and it's just wishful thinking) so that they could cut players to get into compliance. The players would be then free to sell their services to the highest bidder. To many players go through the motions in noncontract years and just kill their teams.

Until they begin to play again, they are all worth nothing at the moment..
I will not spend a dime on the NHL this year.. Not a dime, and i fthe fans all did this, the players and owners would realize that the fans are the ones that pay the bills..
It the fans guys, without them, you are all looking for work. |

And when the Canadian economy goes back into a downturn and their dollar goes back to $1.20CN = $1US or worse, things can be incredibly harsh against teams there and most of them can start losing money like a stuck pig and we can talk about how teams in the U.S. are making all the money and there should be maybe 4 Canadian teams.
Gosh, wouldn't that be a great model for stability.

It is something to do when work is slow.
He is the biggest moron on the site, by a long ways. It is fascinating how often he has been proven wrong, caught making contradictory statements, completely ignoring the other side, ignoring any point that does not support his bizarre beliefs etc.
There are a number of PA supporters on this site. None of them are quite as blind and stupid as MJL. - Aetherial
Well I just read what you two post and leave it at that |
