The NHL blocks relocating teams from going to cities that they plan to expand in as well.
- boonerbuck

That's right - the more money the NHL can squeeze out of a market, the better.

Respectfully yours,

Raleigh, NC (who put together and expansion bid in 1997, then pulled it when Karmanos was approved by the Board of Governors to move his team there) and Houston, TX (who almost had the Edmonton Oilers before Bettman intervened, then had 3 bids in the 1997 expansion and still failed to land a team).

Hockey is indeed very popular here in Buffalo .

Why do you think there is a hard cap on season ticket sales here, somewheres around 16,500 if I'm right?

We live in New York state . As of October of 2012 New York State residents bare the highest tax burden once again at a whopping 12.8 % while unenjoyment creeps higher . Do the math.

We dont need an outsider from another country making an inference about our passion for hockey here in Buffalo. When the Canadians make the playoffs do they have 10,000 fans outside the arena in 20 degree temps watching the game on a big screen ? Your assumption is so far off its disgusting really.

Terry is doing the loyal fans here in Buffalo right. Live here and pay our taxes and then talk , okay ?

- BuffaloHardHat

this high tax burden of 12% is your income tax?

We may not have people standing out in the cold during the playoffs, but we do sell out movie theaters that decide to play the game on the big screen

Being almost dinner time, and thinking about going to McDs......

I though I would share something I remember. Back in 2008, I moved from the US to Canada. I remembered getting a supersized meal at McDs for $7 when I moved to Quebec, it was about $11 for the same thing.
I tried for about 2 weeks to boycott it. Then some of my friends were going and I joined. Paid my $11. Now I go at lease once a month if not more.
Paying more for the same. It's about the same as paying the same for less.

- l3ig_l2ecl

McD's prices have gotten ridiculous period! My wife tells me they put addictive chemicals in their food which keeps you craving it even though I feel like poop almost everytime after I eat it!

Well enjoy your dinner!

Most hockey fans in PHO, DAL, STL, etc, probably have the slightest clue between a NHLer vs an AHLer.
- l3ig_l2ecl

Try going to DAL or STL and asking instead of speculating without basis. The former, they've got a decent grasp of hockey and could probably do that; the latter, they've got some pretty damn knowledgable fans who (gasp!) can even tell the difference between an AHLer and a CHLer.

I'm pretty sure Quebec has some of the highest taxes on the planet, NY State has nothing on them. Just saying. Having a rich owner doesn't equal success, it helps, but it simple means you've got a rich owner.

20% provincial tax for people making between 40 and 80K, 24% if you make more

over 40% of teams in the red

and people wonder why the owners have drawn the line

- Dozzer

Pretty sure paying a drunk who is barely a backup 3.75mil a year, a 3rd line center 5.5mil and numerous fired coaches is why the Oilers aren't maximizing full potential.

Does Quebec have a team ?

No they dont so what do they even have to do with what we pay in taxes here ? But just for kicks...

What is the unemployment rate in Quebec ? I'll tell ya 7.7 as opposed to nearly 10 % here in NY.

The tax burden here in NY is 12.8% While the highest it has ever gotten in Quebec is 9.8 % .

Not that any of this matters anyway but there it is.

Please dont compare oranges to New York state empire apples . There is a reason there is a song called "New York New York" by old Frankie blue eyes. And one of the most famous lines in that song that EVERYONE , probably even including you know is ' if I can make it there I'll make it ANYWHERE' ! Not Quebec.

Well it certainly isn't due to a lack of number 1 draft picks...

BTW, who is the drunk you are referring to?

Nothing gets put on the table for a vote if they know there is no point. It would only happen if a owner tried to follow through against the rest of the NHL desires.

Just in the last year, the NHL spoke of expansion in Seattle possibly. If they feel it's a great location, why don't they help a struggling team relocate there? The NHL would rather the $200 million instead including many of the owners who all get a piece.

i dont disagree.. but they are showing they also have the power and wherewithal to correct those mistakes.

its not about right and wrong.. its about the bottom line.. and the fact is.. you cant have a league without owners.

- Dozzer

Well ya...and you cant have a league without players....now they need to recognize that

So top 5 earners make $250 million and next 25 break even...and there is NOTHING wrong with the current CBA.

Players don't want to take a 12.3% percent (57 to 50) cut in pay despite having received an 80% increase since the last CBA (that one they lost so badly...remember).

Average Joe has garnered an 11.5% increase over that same period (at least the 58% of those that have kept their jobs)

Players expect us to understand their "plight"... earth to Fehr come in Fehr ... reality check time boys.

Why not take the roll 12.3% roll back (netting an increase of 57.9% since the last CBA) and get back on the ice where they actually DO contribute to the well being of the sport AND their wallets.

All this list proves is that without these billionaires there is no place for these players to play and earn these crazy numbers.

That's true I thought we were talking about the Nordique who I actually miss.

Miss those unis when they wore all white.

My geography when it comes to Canada is not the best , that's for sure.
