You shouldn't be worried, but the owner of your team is an idiot.

If you claim that hockey is so popular in Buffalo, then ask yourself how much you would pay for hockey tickets? Here in Montreal, supply and demand dictates that you can buy a nose bleed ticket for over $100. I for one have bought many of them.

- l3ig_l2ecl

if needed I would pay the same. Though my girl an I barely make enough to pay rent an live so I will never cry foul paying 45 for a nose bleed to a bronze tier game.

The NHL approves or blocks those relocations.

The NHL blocks relocating teams from going to cities that they plan to expand in as well. The NHL believes in those markets but dont relocate there. Expanding in those markets makes no sense when you have so many failing teams to begin with. In the end it neither here nor there because those markets flopped for the most part anyways. I just don't understand the logic behind GB and keeping him as Commish. I certainly wouldnt be a big spporter like Wedge.

- boonerbuck

Name a single time this has occured.

Hint: don't say Hamilton - the NHL isn't planning on expanding there - it was done so that they wouldn't get into an ugly legal fight, as it would infringe upon the territorial rights of Buffalo and Toronto.

Go ahead - name a single instance where someone has tried to relocate to another city, and has been barred from doing so by the NHL.

Just one.

Can you name one?

I'm waiting.

Here's a better question.

If McD's reduced their quality and size, but charged the same price, yet it's still bigger and better than other fast food around in this continent, and also they still have the same fries, would you go to another continent to get a better and bigger burger?

- l3ig_l2ecl

I think thats why I have a grill in the backyard. Or another one I take tailgating.

But again I'm not sure we are talking the same language here. My analogy refers to quality vs price and whether we as fans would pay NHL prices for less than NHL quality.

Would I travel to another continent to see NHL quality hockey? Well find me another continent with NHL quality hockey and I guess I'm buying a plane ticket

I'm in the same situation. At least I have a mini-keyboard for my controller so its more like texting. I wouldn't even bother if I had to input using the joysticks.

What was Microsoft thinking when they made IE for xbox? No flash?! Useless

Perhaps you should ask the 29 owners who unanimously voted to extend his contract.

Including Aquilini.

Gary Bettman didn't choose where to relocate a single team over his entire NHL career.

Thanks for playing.

Enjoy these lovely parting gifts.

Approved...

Splitting hairs and something I've already clarified anyways.

You'd think little Betteman Jr. would have something better to do than defend daddy on HB all day.

Gary Bettman doesn't approve relocations - the 30 owners do.

I'm not sure we are on the same page here but I'll try.

If you go to McD's today and a burger cost $1, then go tomorrow and the burger still costs $1 but is half the size and the "quality" of the meat is inferior, would you continue going to McD's to pay the $1 for a clearly inferior burger? For me, nah, I'd go find a burger somewhere else that is better price/quality.

And I know I probably just killed my argument by using quality and McD's in the same sentence but sometimes poop happens I guess

- uf1910

I prefaced my post by admitting it was a horrible analogy. But you got it! My whole point was that some people can take or leave McDonalds, but some of us are hopelessly hooked for some stupid reason even though the product has become far more inferior over the years and most of the time tastes like poop. But the name is what keeps people like me going back. Name recognition is huge.
Same will happen with the NHL if they were to decertify or fold and start over, some will take it or leave it, many will continue to follow because of the name. Unless of course they change it to something different which in this case completely hoses up any modicum of a point I have been painfully trying to make.

Original Six teams rock! All in the top six for franchise worth. All have won a Stanley Cup post expansion too....oh sh!t....all but one. Why would the owners of Toronto ever care if they win another Cup, they've got millions upon millions of blind sheep following the team and spending money foolishly on a perennial loser.

But that never was the question.
The question is a "what if" scenario.
Would anyone want AHL quality players replacing NHLers? Absolutely not.

However, what if the NHL started replacing the NHLers with scabs. All of those guys would have to retire or go play in Europe.

Now you are left with the NHL (using AHL (i know not legal, but for the sake of the argument)), AHL using ECHL, and so on....

The highest caliber of hockey in NA would still be the NHL. It would still be 30 teams playing 82 games to make the playoffs and a chance to win the Stanley Cup.

Would people want to go to those games? Would people get use to it? Would people still pay current gate prices?
I think people would want to go after they get past their wannabe "boycott" phase. After a few weeks of equal competitive level, people would like it and be willing to pay top dollars are all they care is for their teams name to be written in that silver.
No one cares if Sydney, Ovy, Price, Kessle, or whoever other overpriced player gets their name written on that cup. It's not "I live Crosby so much, he's won a stanley cups...", It's "Oh Yeah? We the Habs have won 24! The Leafs haven't won in how many?

...and how do you suppose a fan goes about asking 29 owners about a buiseness decision?

You think because the owner of the Canucks voted to keep him, all Canuck fans should be supportive of Betteman? It doesnt work that way with me and in spite of your reasoning, Betteman is not popular among most Canuck fans. I guess we are not sheep like ewe.

Besides, we have ewe to tell us. We don't need to ask the owners questions. We can follow sheep instead.

It's crazy, the total operating income for original 6 teams combine: $263M. Total operating income for all 7 canadian teams combine: $218M. Total operating income for only the Maple leafs, Rangers and Canadiens: $207M. Total operating income for all 30 teams combine: $250M. Hummm??? there's a problem somewhere. I mean the two teams that made it to the stanley cup finals barely made any money.

Who is this Betteman guy you keep referring to?

Still waiting for you to give a single reference to when and where an owner or potential owner was blocked from moving an NHL franchise.
