Right. What I'm saying is that increased revenues and profits are what make increased player salaries possible. Bobby Orr was the most skilled player of his time, but players with far less skill than him are making far more money than he did because NHL teams are making more money than before. If the NHL starts making less money year after year and profits and revenues go down, player salaries will go down too even though the average player skill level will likely be going up with time.

I'm going to miss it once football season is over.

I do *care* about hockey and I obviously care about *this season*. Otherwise, I wouldn't be reading all these silly blogs and polls (and anybody who says different is just a liar or a troll).
However, as much as I want the players and League to get this resolved, I'll be REALLY upset if the best they can do is a 4 or 5 year deal. We'll get an abbreviated season (with piss-poor attendance and lots of fan apathy), a year or two of the NHL "making a comeback" and then before you know it, we'll be talking about this CBA crap all over again.
As a fan, I'm honestly just sick and tired to death of hearing about hockey CBAs. I want the league to be healthy, for the players to make a fair living and for the owners to make enough money to keep the teams viable but I really don't give a crap anymore about how they do it.
Give me great HD Center Ice coverage, fair ticket prices and consistent refereeing and I'm a happy camper. That's all I want.
The owners and players don't give a crap about my money problems and I'm sick of hearing about theirs.
Fix the problems, get back on the ice and play the game. And if you're smart enough to sign an 8-10 year agreement, the fans might even come back...

I can relate more to this post than anything else I've read about the lockout.

It's pretty funny how the players are telling the owners to increase their revenue sharing amounts, having the the rich team further supporting the poor teams, and yet we don't see the owners telling the Crosby's, Ovechkin's and Kovalchuks of the league to support the league's bottom feeders like Jamal Mayers.

The hypocricy and contradiction under which the NHLPA operates ad nauseum is hilarious.:
- "We support hockey players" > Let's go steal some jobs in Europe and Russia
- "This is about the stability of the players" > Let's decertify
- "We're average everyday people like everyone else!" > Who make in one year what "the average everyday guy" make in a lifetime
- "This is about the future of the players" > But we're going to disregard tear and down everything that the players before us have sacrificed and fought for
- "We're united!" > See: Hamrlik / Neuvirth (You can bet there are hundreds more like them)
- "We're willing to negotiate!" > The NHLPA reluctantly submitted their FIRST proposal LAST WEEK when the league tried to start this process over a year ago

... And on and on and on...

It seems like it's perpetually in the red, highly optimistic zone. His last entry had the thing a full notch ABOVE "Progress".
