Financially it is big difference absolutely. But the pride would be the same regardless. Getting a worse deal in anything in life tends to enlist the same emotional prideful response.

I haven't heard a single nhlpa statement crying about the money specifically. They are digging in because they are sick of owners holding season hostage to get what they want.

Again not on their side merely commenting on the irate fan holding the players responsible. They will play tomorrow if owners open doors.

- sfarrell

Some people believe that making Millions of Dollars removes Human emotion. It doesn't. One of the reason's why some players are speaking out when they shouldn't. They're Human.

How much salary has been lost by the players so far? $500,000,000? I think $1.8 billion is given out in salary during the season. What the (frank) is Jamal talking about? That seems like a whole lot of giving by the owners.

I think Jamal needs to put the headphones back on and shut his mouth.

- bloatedmosquito

In Jamal's defence, it's the first time in years he's done anything that anyone has noticed.

What I don't understand is why you come on here every day and spout off the same angry line about the NHL and NHLPA.

You should be directing your anger towards a more worthy target:

Internet Explorer.

Eff, I hate this browser.

Internet Explorer is a tool. Hating IE is like saying you hate a hammer or pencil.
Sounds a bit silly.

I'm just wondering how many more irritating pop ups and advertisements will get crammed onto this site.

A clever way to get people to pay for a subscription I guess... Never!

I feel the owners have given their best offer and need these concessions to keep many teams in NHL

We need a league retraction. 4-6 teams need to be dropped. Who are your picks?

Why must you be so mean to me? I've worked very hard to improve my personality and my demeanor. I try to contribute positively to the conversation while being encouraging to my fellow fan.

To hear these hurtful things coming from you is just so disappointing. I need to slow down, step back, and re-evaluate our friendship.

We are missing the bigger picture - the fact that a players union exists.

Unions only exist to serve the union structure itself.
It does not serve the best interests of the players - there are low-earning players now being pinched financially, and high-performing players not able to earn their maximum potential.
It does not serve the owners - they are not able to hire players to put on a game to put on for the fans.
It does not serve the fans - whenever someone gets a bellyache everything goes haywire, and you end up with no hockey or twinkies.
It does not serve the interest of the game - remember when we would just pick sides, and play a game of hockey? Remember when hockey players were not out in front of a camera begging for the union? Remember when hockey players come back losing teeth and playing the game?

The problem is that the union exists in the first place.

You must be one of those people who just follow the masses. A sheep.

The new IE has better specs than pretty much any browser out now. The last one wasn't so bad either.

I mainly use Firefox for my own reasons, but you need to stop hating just to hate.

Shed? You must mean share.

If financially supporting struggling teams is a big reason for the lockout, then some teams need to be cut out for the good of the league as a whole. Hard truths.

They'll have to have some type of mechanism in place to ensure that the split is correct. The PA isn't crying about the salary disparity of their members. That some teams are struggling is an NHL problem, not a players problem directly. Revenue sharing is used in all Leagues for a reason. Because it works. I'm quite sure that Owners of top teams won't be happy with having to give some of their money to the struggling teams. But if they aren't willing to help out those teams, why should the players?
- MJL

It's not a league problem if 100 jobs are lost from folding teams. It bothers me that players like Ian White can female dog about the league when if it wasn't for growth into markets that lose money, he probably wouldn't be in the league, becasue there would be less NHL jobs. Of course its a players problem. The players want non profitable teams to be able to lose money but continue to pay NHL salaries. And who pays for that - fans in profitable markets. Average fans pay $200 a game in Edmonton, so someone can pay $40 for a lower bowl seat in Florida to see Chris Versteeg make $4million.
