I wouldn't even say he had a bad year. He started strong and he finished strong, he was just inconsistent through the middle portion of the regular season. You're right that better team defense will make Bryz look better, and the additions of Grossmann and Luke Schenn will help make that happen.
- Coburns_Nose

When he was played every game instead of giving the isles to Bob because "he owns the Isles" (like all hockey teams do) he won two consecutive NHL Player of the month awards. Lavy didn't know how to use him early in the year. He figured it out after erring on the Winter Classic decision, and Bryz ran with it until he broke his foot late in the year. People really love to hate this guy and I don't get it. Play him every game and see what happens.

If it's true, the league should be ashamed.

Agreed. It's not like the players put it together for their own personal gain. This is a charity event we are taking about. Id like to know more enforce passing judgement though.

I think perhaps my ancient alien avatar/profile location was retired a couple weeks too early.

I actually thought of cartman with an Andrew dice clay voice when I composed that particular line.

Based off what? One bad year? I agree that if there were any kind of buyouts allowed the Flyers wouldn't have many guys they need to choose from, Pronger far and away being number one, but just chucking out Bryz? Doesn't make a ton of sense. If we want a Lundqvist or a Quick type goalie then Lavi needs to change his whole defensive scheme, not just the goalie...
- hereticpride

Because 9 years would likely be against the cap, even in the event he retired, would be the top reason

Part of the proposals that have been tossed around have all long term deals counting against the cap, not just over 35 deals.

I wouldn't have him at the top of my list, but he'd be on it. You have to have a plan B immediately lined up if you go that route.

I'm sure that there would be other goalies carrying big contracts that would be on the chopping block, too.

Perhaps, but I wouldn't want someone like Nikolai Khabibulin or Steve Mason as a one-year stopgap in tandem with Leighton.

I've been a pretty big supporter of Bryzgalov, but I think if there's any kind of cap amnesty buyouts, he's on the short list.

I wouldn't be excited about it, but I'd also be very worried if the deal counts for 8 more years on the cap.

I wonder if a guy like Niklas Backstrom would be bought out? 4 years left at $6mm per at age 34. I'd take a one year flier on him.

If it's limited to a one off, I'd buy Pronger out first.

Teams like the Flyers are going to feel the crunch from a new CBA if it ever gets signed. If he plays as he is capable of, then it'll be worth it. But if he doesn't, then the criticism will be worse once that crunch is felt.
