Schultz is just sick. He is currently on pace for 120 pts.

Not bad for a rookie D-man

- steveb12344

Close, but no bong. He's on pace for 112 points were he to play a full AHL schedule. Remember: AHL schedules are only 76 games long, not 82! Still ridiculous numbers to put up for any player, not to mention a rookie D-man!

Just my theory about who clout's insider close to the team is. I have no proof of this as of yet, but just reading his blogs makes it sound pretty legit.

Yeah, he looks like he's NHL-ready right now. He's been even better than advertised so far.

I'd have to agree with most people here that veteran leadership is a commonality on most Cup winning teams. Horcoff might have to go for cap reasons down the road but I wouldn't say immediately. Smyth was a hero in Edmonton and it's sad to see people turning on him.

I did have a good laugh at your "I like hearing from hockey fans" statement, considering that's all you are as well.

we have no one currently outside of belanger (whom clouts also hates and claims the oilers are trying to get rid of) that could take his place. even next year
- hugefemale dog77

This is the reason I don't put too much stock into what he says. We're already one of the worst teams in the league. Take Horcoff and Belanger out of the picture and there goes our PK and our faceoff abilities. We will then officially be competing with Columbus for that 1st overall pick. And although I would love to get MacKinnon I can't stand to watch any more worst in the league hockey. 4 1st overalls in a row isn't something we should be trying for.

Why does getting rid of Horcoff give you such a hard on? Replacing him with Lander next season doesn't make us better, it makes us worse. And putting a C on Hall's jersey won't make much difference in the standings. Horcoff is still a great player, no need to buy him out and waste cap space for the next 4 years

this.

ive never heard the young guys dont respond to him. link clouts?

he speaks as if we had the team to get into the top ten, but they hated the captain and wouldnt respond. our best players were kids. we couldnt have done much btter under any circumstances. horcoff has never been a captain of a good team

- hugefemale dog77

This right here. It stuns me how many people relentlessly dump on Horcoff and Belanger because they look at a few numbers and have no idea what these guys do. Do people really think it's Hall, Eberle and Nuge playing the hardest minutes against the other teams best players every night? Remember the PK? Yeah that's not them either. Get rid of those two guys alone and start planning another draft party.

Nothing about this was funny. Delete the laughies immed.
- sanfordnson

It would have been funny if it was Joey Moss cutting his hair and giving him inside scoops about the Oilers. Every tip coud be stuff like "cats are tickley" and "Horncoff likes Joey to hold the towel between his knees"

You seem to write a lot of blogs with the idea of Edmonton getting rid of everyone apart from the kids. I'm wondering... what vets do you expect to be on the team when they win the cup?

Mitchel/Scuderi
Recchi/Chara
Madden/Sopel
Gonchar/Gill/Satan
Chelios/Maltby/Lidstrom/Draper
O'Donnell/Niedermayer/Selanne
Brind'Amor/Whitney/Hedican

Those guys were all 33+, and had been on their team over a year when they won the cup. More often than not, at least one of these players was an integral part of their team winning the cup. And this list doesn't even include trade deadline type vets acquired by winning teams, like Weight, Guerin, Recchi with Car, etc.

My point is... Edmonton needs vets who have been on the team longer than a year when they are pushing for a cup. Who do you expect those players to be?

Don't know what people are turning on him? Link please.
The guy just resigned before the lock-out and instead of running away to Europe to play or standing sholder to sholder with the NHLPA the guy is just keeping his mouth shut and actually helping several Edmoton Oil Kings like helping out at their practices and taking several players like Oiler pick Mitch Moroz under his wing and buying them dinners and such. (holy f u c k batman can you say run on sentence?????????)
Still very impressive at being a stand-up guy for the young players to look up to.

I have never understood Boners hate on for Horcs, Belanger, or Eager. Did they have perfect seasons? No; but I for one was very pleased witht the immediate impact Belanger made on our PK, Face Offs, and overall defensive play. He was not brought in for secondary scoring as much as Clouts would have you believe.
Further to this, had Eager not been injured in the pre-season I think he may have made far more of a contribution offensively. Like it or not, Eager is exactly what this team needs in the bottom 6. Bad attitudes? There was never anything televised to suggest this to be even remotely the truth.

I'll cut Belanger some slack... Offensively he had a bad year, but otherwise he was good.

Horcoff is a decent 3rd line center, BUT my main issue with him is that "C" he's wearing. I don't think the guy is a leader... Give Gagner that C.

Seriously, move the guy to the wing if you have to (Hemsky is talc anyway)... Gagner has the potential to be one of the best captains in the entire NHL (that last sentence will probably find a home in someone's location, but I don't care)... I'm not even kidding. His pre/post-game interviews are head and shoulders above the other players, he doesn't sugar-coat stuff, and he knows what he's talking about.

no matter how much i bit*h about his size, production etc....there's absolutely no arguing his character. he works hard every shift, doesnt complain, does as hes told, has some brains and cares about the franchise.

if he can put together a successfull season whenever the next one is, he'll def be on the short list.

another lottery pick finish would be terrible for these kids imo. im even interested in moving the next first we have to shore up some deficiencies.

i like clouts' writing when it's nothing more than jokes and saracsm..but when he starts talking real about hockey....sometimes i cant help but cringe

No one has. If he had such a terrible attitude and the only reason he was not moved was because of the contract, then I wonder why Hall and Ebs were specifically paired up with him in their first season.

You would think that management knowing of his poor perspective, according to the blogger, would have them paired with someone else.
