Reading the tsn cover story, i cant help but think that fehr didnt bet on this.

He thinks it's a true give and take negotiation where both sides are behind the 8 ball.
They're not.

The owners are gonna get pretty much all the stuff they want or theyll continue to lock the players out.
While i do believe this is nowhere near 04 as far as the owners resolve (by some of their concessions made) it's still gonna end 1 sided. Fehr said no reciprocity and bettman said still far apart.
A player spoke out and slammed his union.....it's getting more obvious, imo.

These nonsense offers making MORE, with no real losses, just worded differently aint gonna fly donald.

Taking y

- hugefemale dog77

No. A true partnership would have both equally absorbing the losses, he still wants full salaries during a lockout.

His press conference, he looks & speaks like a complete smart ass

and when you break down the offer, at least the parts I have seen, it was a complete and utter joke. If Fehr honestly expected a positive response, I think he has gone insane.

He knew what the reaction would be. He was backed into a corner to make an offer and this is, yet another, F-you to the owners.

sure some accountability of your own economic system is in order.

record revenues not equaling profits is bettman and the owners responsibility. not the players.

- joel878

Newsflash, Joel: that's exactly what the owners are doing right now.

They will but the owners will get most of what they want. Players are dealing with very successful businessmen, they know their patience will pay off. Will the league suffer from another season lost to a lockout, sure it will but they are in it for the long term, they will make that money back.

Someone posted a blurb on successful business constantly revisiting their business model. I wish I could find it. Maybe I could, if I wasn't so busy finding purse dog pictures.

Too much focus on the rhetoric, and not enough focus on the process. The players offer today did indeed give on HRR to the Owners, from the 57% they made last year. Not enough to get a deal. But today was significant.

You called it the other night, (the leaked NHLPA offer) from Damphousse, and the response today was totally predictable, depressing but predictable.

Here is the NHLPA's bargaining in simplified form:

"We want 5 apples, 3 oranges, 7 bananas, 10 grapes, and 8 pears"

"No?? Ok we will concede a little, we want 7 bananas, 8 pears, 5 apples, 10 grapes and 3 oranges"

"Geez, your aren't happy with that, how many more concessions do we have to make???? Ok this is our last one, we want 8 pears, 7 bananas, 3 oranges, 10 grapes, and 5 apples"

"Good God you still won't take that, what more can we give up! You need to meet us half way!!"

"Forget it, we are going to Russia, they will give us 2 grapefruit there"

- Cochise

And here is the NHL's: You get one raisin. No, not each. One. In. Total.

I think you should do some research on what was made and what wasn't made. You get caught up on one word without understaning how a full market analysis works.

I thought you have maintained all along that the players have made serious concessions already agreeing to go to 50/50. Hell, we debated all night about it a few nights ago.

But now...

You are saying today is significant because they are moving towards the owners from the 57% they made last year.

I would love to hear you explain this.

When your message is something you believe in and is what you feel is right. Why change it? I've got 3 fundamental beliefs on this lockout.

1) The players can't continue to make 57%. The ratio needs to go to 50/50. That is fair.

2) Players contracts need to be honored.

3)The players should not be held fully responsible for the Owner's mistakes, and have the foot the entire bill to solve the League's financial and systemic issues.

- MJL

Boom!

The "problem" exists in the first place because owners/GMs let their egos get in the way and make poor decisions. They spend like drunken sailors under the CBA but as soon as it ends they are suddenly astute business men watching the bottom line?

To make this lockout even more ridiculous, we all know that even before the ink is dry on this next agreement some owner/GM is going to make a stupid and expensive signing and we'll be off and running again.

Plus as you remembered he was a PA guy himself.

Sad, Fehr's got a target on his back, and the owners are taking aim, this will be about kicking him smooth out of the league he should have never attempted to fu#% up.

It only took you 45 minutes to move from "Do you really think for a second I am going to start debating the specifics of the offer with you? " to " I would love to hear you explain this"

I wish the CBA negotiations would move that fast.

It's very simple, in the offer made today, the players in year 4 get to about 50.3%. It's a soft landing towards 50/50. I think in order to get a deal, the landing is going to have to be a little less soft. I think there is too much money in the first few years of the players Make Whole offer. But what it does, is it give an indisputable number to the differences between both sides.
That is not the only reason why today was significant. But it is one of them.

Which makes the players' stance all the more sad.

Why are you losing income?

Sign the damn contract. The owners will end up screwing themselves no matter what.

They started so far away in their proposals......I can't see how both sides will save face.
