"As the talks broke up both sides were full of the kinds of happy thoughts which accompany spending quality time with the people who are preventing you from making millions/billions of dollars." (quoted from blog)
Just wanted to say I really liked this sentence. It's getting tougher and tougher for me to chuckle at the lockout and this got a chuckle out of me so well done.
2005 CBA: Players receive 57 percent of Basketball Related Income (BRI).
2011 CBA: Players receive 51.15 percent of BRI in 2011-12. In later seasons players receive 49 to 51 percent of BRI (50 percent, plus or minus 60.5 percent of the amount by which BRI exceeds or falls short of projections); 1 percent of BRI (from the players' share) is used to fund a new pool for post-career benefits.

Thank you for that
So they went from 57% to 51% in one CBA contract year?, (I know they have a luxury tax & a bit of a different system, maybe different escrow?), but was that technically a pay cut for their players?
I want to hate the NHL and NHLPA right now.
I want to say I am never coming back.
Then i do dumb things like watching the following videos and realize, I can't let go.. =(

Do you know what I miss about no season? I miss doing this...
Certainly, the fans hear the rhetoric. Many fans don't want to invest the time to read up on everything. That's understandable.
I'm not a player. Go to the Flyers threads and ask anyone who's a regular there. I've been a regular poster on this site for years. I don't have any inside information. Everything I know can be found on the internet.
Grange could be counting the Make Whole money that is deferred, or counting the interest that is gained. There's a lot I still don't know about it. I'm sure in the next few days, we'll learn more. - MJL

I'm not dodging any of your questions.

Some things never change...and you want to talk about rhetoric?

Not to get too involved in this discussion here, but those bashing on LA's fanbase should probably check out our ticket sales over the last...well for as long as I have been a season ticket holder ('97, and have been attending games with my late father since '78). I hardly remember a game without a sellout in recent seasons, and our team has been piss poor...even last season we barely made the dance. I honestly can't really explain that cup run. - Wodanaz
If you had read back further you would have seen the original comment surrounding the $ loss. Winning a Stanley Cup gives you an increased fan base which provides more revenue for the following season. I don't think anyone was bashing the LA fan base, merely suggesting an increase that could wipe out the negative in the dollar column.
they are continuing to drink that dudes Kool aid, It's scary! - puckhead17
We will...eventually. At this point, I honestly hope this season is cancelled. The main reason being that a shortened season takes the 'Iron Man/team' out of our sport. As silly as it sounds, I would rather no champion than one that didn't do it right. Just my personal, and somewhat romantic opinion.
Alternative reasons to my opinion include the >$12 K I will save (and earn a mediocre interest on), and the fact that it makes it easier to realize and participate in the notion that I actually have a family during the time that would normally be hockey season.

No, I read that stuff. I apologize, as I was just defending a passion. I do not necessarily believe those Forbes numbers though...even if based on HRR, our owner definitely made a poope pot full of dough on the Kings considering the fact that he owns pretty much everything in the now 'LA Live' area of downtown, plus (not Kings related) pretty much every god darned sports arena in every darned counrty of the world, and the Kings started the season off in Europe playing in AEG owned arenas. AEG is monstrous.
You are absolutely correct in your assertion that the Kings will gain fans with their cup run...especially here in LA where everything sports seems to be bandwagon. (Frank) those people. Especially the former Ducks fans.

I don't think those include playoff revenue, which makes a lot of money for teams.

I agree. If its still more than half a season I would probably get on board, especially since the playoffs could be great with players well rested. Each day I get less and less interested in this potential season though.
Hell thinking about it now, I wouldn't even feel bad if the Devils sucked during the shortened season. If its a bullpoop season i'd like a top pick more than scratching for a 6,7,8 seed.

didn't your team just get to the finals as a 6th seed and lost to the 8th seed

Today's assignment is to write on the meaning and implications of NHLPA de-certification. Please be sure to explain anti-trust land the potential use of replacement players. Bonus points for best estimate on how long the Coyotes and Devils survive in a league where there are no restrictions on ow much players can be paid.
As usual, points will not be awarded for logical and accurate responses but on the length to which you will go to refute the arguments posted by others. Congratulations to MJL and Aetherial for their great work so far.
