You know, I live a 5 minute walk from where the Hitmen play and I haven't even been to a game yet. This lockout hasn't made me seek out hockey elsewhere, it's just made me apathetic.

I know, but based on the number of sins i've already committed at this point in my life 1 more isn't going to mean much. It'll just be a tad hotter than it might normally be.

I've been watching them on tv. The only live hockey i've seen this year is my 9 yr old nephew who is playing his first year. Watching that makes me hate the greedy bastards even more, if only they could all remember how it all started...

I find it funny that people are still picking sides.

The NHL owners have not made concessions. They are making demands. They're demanding the players give up more money, limit their contract length and wait longer for free agency. They decided to go the nuclear route, and lock the players out. They are the ones that basically admitted that the reason for the lockout wasn't really competitive balance, but a cash grab.

The NHLPA held off negotiation for months, to force the owners to sweat. They have allowed agents and players to run their mouths on twitter, which doesn't help matters. They know that immediately going to 50-50 would resolve a huge stumbling block, but are negotiating to win the PR war, rather than get a deal done.

Both sides have been at fault. The reason neither side is worth a pisshole drilled in a snowbank is that they both disregarded the fans, in order to put the most pressure on the other side they could. The owners knew that missing paychecks and games would make the players more eager to return. The players knew that losing game revenue would hurt the owners.

What both count on is the fans returning as if nothing happened. Like we did in 2005. And 1995. Bettman and Fehr are counting on $3 billion in revenues. What happens if fans vote with their wallets?

I have decided that I will not be attending any NHL games this season, assuming they get a new deal done. I will not be buying the 4(possibly more) jerseys I was planning on buying this year(2 for me & 2 for the kiddies). I won't pay the $20 to park my car, the $7 for a "premium" beer, the $7.50 for crab fries.

Worse, for the NHL & NHLPA, I'm finding a lot of fun things to do with the time and money I would have spent watching games. I'm irritated by the bad labor news, but I'm also not especially missing the games. I'm even sort of expecting a cancelled season, so I'm apathetic about bad CBA news, as well.

Bettman has been the NHL's commissioner for like 20 years. It's totally unfair to label him as a basketball person and not a hockey person because he worked for the NBA 20 years ago. Bettman knows more about hockey than people give him credit for.

Fantastic post, this is exactly how I feel. I intend to never pay for anything NHL ever again. I'll watch on the television, but the only way I'm going to games is if the tickets are given to me and I feel like riding the SEPTA.
