draft picks are always funny.

We're obsessed with the bust or superstar potential of 1st round picks. But they exist at every level
Look at someone like Patrick Sharp.

95th overall pick by the Flyers
first year in the AHL has 33 points in 53 games. They bring him up for 3 games, 0 pts
second AHL year, 29 pts in 35 games. try him in the NHL, 7 pts in 41 games.
third pro year, 52 pts in 75 AHL games, no NHL experience. (lockout year)
4th pro year, 8 pts in 22 NHL games.

By now, in Toronto, the media would be howling at this AHL pro who can't translate his game to the NHL.

Well, so it was in Philly, and he was traded with Eric Meloche, for Matt Ellison and 3rd rd pick.

fifth pro year, NHL, 20 goals

He's been a pro ever since.

I think it's too early to call Kadri a bust or star. The kid has some unreal potential. We just have to wait and see if he lives up to it.

This made me feel all warm and fuzzy about my boy Naz, and I agree. But the thing is, how many Pat Sharps and Sedins are there compared to the number of high draft/high skill players that start slow and never figure it out?

Why is Kadri labeled as a Bust?... he was takan 7th overall...

Here is the list of the 10, 7th overall picks before him

Lars Jonsson,
Mike Komisarek,
Joffrey Lupul,
Ryan Suter,
Rostislav Olesz,
Jack Skille,
Kyle Okposo,
Jakub Voracek,
Colin Wilson,
Kris Beech

1 real star and 1 decent player and a bunch of average.

If Kadri got 50 points regularly that would be a homerun pick

This is where I pivot to Sam Ganger and get another 200 hits.

From a person who watches a lot of live Marlies games, he has been playing much better this year than last. Lots of hits (mostly rub-outs) and he actually back-checks now. Still has awesome puck control, though does get too fancy sometimes, though when it works, you're on your feet.
He's progressing fine. Saviour? No. Good skill guy? Soon.

(frank)heads yapping on Kadri need to remember too that the most successful hockey club over the last 20 years the Detroit Red Wings routinely lets prospects mature for a couple of years in their system as a matter of course, something the Leafs have rarely done

And nobody ever said Kadri was a lotto pick saviour type player, he's just another decent young player in the system

Good point. Kadri fits in with the rest of that group pretty well. He'll be alright.

it's Ok to be warm as long as he knows when to put the hammer down.

i.e. to Brett Lawrie . if you take us out of another inning while you try and go from first to third on a hard hit ball to a guy with a major league arm, I will sit your ass for a week.

I can't believe how disappointed I am in this hire. It's just so weird and awkward that AA would do this. After everything he's done the past week, this hire takes away from all the talent he's brought in.

Like a manager matters ...Cito was useless without a talent loaded team...

Managers (Giants) win their team the World Series with decisions.

I just hope Frasor doesn't come back, (frank) I hated watching him blow games. Also hope Lind doesn't come back, he's Overbay v2.0.

Ideally they trade Romero + 1 of the catchers for some bullpen help. Maybe convince Dempster to sign...Halladay might like to come back mid season if the Phillies are out of it. Team looks good, but there definitely is some tweaking to be done.

I think they are much improved but they were a zillion games behind the Yankees last year and don't think for a minute they won't spend a whack of cash to get better. Baltimore will also sign a couple of guys and Tampa Bay is always in the hunt.

No slam dunk they finish better than 4th

No chance they are going to trade Romero for bullpen help.. I completely understand how awful his season was but give your head a shake. He was clearly injured for a portion of it.

If AA is planning on targeting another starting pitcher and Marcum can't be had, Doc should be number 1 on the list. Not only is the guy still an absolute stud but he would be great for the locker room. Jose to lead a little more vocally and doc to lead by example. Big pipe dream though as doc would cost more top end young talent and I'm not sure AA is parting ways with more of it.

He will if they are seriously in the hunt before the deadline, otherwise he will sell Josh Johnson to the highest bidder before he becomes a FA
