I don't know what it is with animal people. They instantly put the animal on the same level as a human being. I remember laughing at the thought of a story where this guy kicked a poodle, but they broke it down like it was a football play. This 'dog lover' piped in how what would I think if it was my 2 year old daughter (at the time) that was kicked. It's still dumbfounding me how somebody can equate a poodle to a little girl.

B) they are completely helpless and depend on owners for their survival

combine the two, and it's very easy to see why people do what they do for their pets.
