Hi Bill!

I've been coming to Hockeybuzz for a couple of years and I just recently signed up to get a screen name. I wanted to leave a comment to tell you that you're the reason I keep coming back to this site. I know you hear it often that you're the best blogger HB has to offer. As far as I know you're the best source on the Internet for Flyers news and analysis. Keep up the good work and just try to keep yourself sharp throughout this lockout.

Im right there with you on that....i tried liking the eagles, but andy and the eagles org turned me from a fan into a guy that just wants to watch them fail.
- Philly1980

I agree with that. The Eagles are unwatchable.

I wonder if the fact that there are ZERO teams in Philadelphia worth caring about right now does not make Snider a little bit more willing to weigh in with his 2 cents in favor of cutting deal and getting hockey back on the ice. If the Flyers were back on . . . the Flyers would be the only game in town, and I think the starving sports fans of this city would be willing to obsolve the league for its sins by dragging us through this situation.

Complaining about a team that hasn't won squat in more than half a century... I mean the nerve of this spoiled fan.

Reid still ahead of Coughlin in the coaching rankings?

You mean the same Marlins that have won two championships in the last 15 years? Those Marlins.

Even with 2 championships, there is no reason why any baseball fan would associate with that franchise and have any pride in how they run that team. That franchise is more of a business than a team. Not that I deny that every team's goal, in all sports, is to make money first. I'm just saying, at least try to give the impression that you care about the fans. The Marlins make no attempt at that.

I'd rather be a Marlins fan than a Marlins owner, that's for sure. All that money spent last year and they're already giving up the dream, yeesh!

Having the tax payers fund that monstrosity of a ballpark, then pulling the plug on all the high priced players they brought in is shady business. This is why MLB has a commissioner. If Selig has any balls he won't allow the trade to go through.

Is there precedent for blocking a trade on this basis, though? I don't disagree that Operation: Dump a (frank)ton of Money into a New park and Balloon the Payroll' was a disgraceful mess, but if they're going to commit franchise suicide does he really have any basis to stop them? Will the Marlins be better off if they don't implode their expensive roster?

Can they trade any of these players for a time machine so they can go back an undo this stupid idea?

I was researching this very question, and there is history of trades being blocked by the Commissioner, Bowie Kuhn, to mention one of recent ilk. But there is nothing I can find that is an example of a Commissioner vetoing a pure salary dump.

What the Marlins are doing here is an absolute disgrace. It's totally destroying their fan base, it's robbing the taxpayers in Miami, and it's not in any way in the best interest of baseball.

Edit: All a moot point, as the trade is made official. Sickening.

The taxpayer money part is what's so disgusting about this. If the guy sank his own money into this loony expenditure only to have it fall apart it'd be one thing, but the city and its residents are the ones suffering his gross miscalculation.

I don't see what all the outrage is about. There is significant risk on Toronto's end of this deal and legitimate prospects going back to the Marlins. The Fish signed these guys, it didn't work out, they stunk, and they found takers for them. What's wrong with that? It's not like they were any good with these players anyway. ...more
