Ask Suter, Parise, and Weber. There is such I high amount of players getting a huge signing bonus that they less contracts they have over seas don't hurt as much. Couple that with better tax laws and they are losing far less then you are making it out to be. As for your renting out the arena, how does that work? Day to day you aren't going to get a ton more interest in the space then you currently have.

So what you are saying is if it goes into next season the owners are screwed? If the pa is willing to scrap this season they best wait through a few months of next?
- Bieksa#3

The more this drags on...the more the players will lose, the revenues are going down by the minute. Their % or a smaller amount will result in a higher escrow....owners won't lose more money than they are losing now.

Ask Mark Recchi, Mike Modano and the other guys who have come out saying they the players need to threat this as a business, not make it personal. They are business man now, earning millions. You take the deal that will get you the most money and sign it. If the players don't get a deal before this season is cancelled, no way they get a better deal....the average guy with a 4-5 years career will NEVER get that money back if a season is lost. That's a high % of the union....

Owners don't have the hockey expenses, they book a few more dates, cover the costs of the building. They can be patient.

I love how these bone head fans keep thinking this is anything like the last lockout. They need to lay off the koolaid. The owners paid a total of like 7 mill in contracts in 2004, it is way over 200million this time. As for Recchi, I think he lost all credibility with any player or fan with more then 1/4 of a brain when he made those comments about Patches after the Chara hit

I think you need to this k before posting. Management is still being paid. I'm sure the scouts and all their travel expenses are done for free. I'm sure all of those guys playing in the ahl not on 2 way contracts are gonna play for free as well. They have tons of expenses

Two points that need clarification:

1. Just because there's no games being played doesn't mean the owners are bringing in no revenue. Besides, they still have whatever ticket money (gate receipts, luxury boxes) and ad/broadcast revenue they've earned and don't have to pay back; all of that can easily go toward player signing bonuses (and in fact already did so). The amount gained on renting out the arena may or may not offset (where teams have the ability to do so), and it's hard to say either way because one has to know the location of the arena and the events being booked to replace. Swapping the Flyers with "Greater Eastern PA Cat Show?" Probably not a gain. Swapping the Flyers with 3 nights of "Legends of Rock, VII?" Possibly a different story.

2. Depending on the country, the players may actually be paying more in taxes. My recollection on this is that players in Sweden and Finland are shouldering a pretty significant tax burden. Additionally, the players are responsible for insuring their contracts (where necessary) at this point, and that's not a cheap thing either. Add it all up, and the players playing overseas are largely netting minor dollars even pro-rated for a full season.

If your a guy like Crosby and you get hurt overseas. If/when the cba is settled you start getting paid by your NHL deal whether you are healthy or not. Boy would that suck for the league.

A player overseas texted me earlier today "what do you think we can do to help the situation?"

Any one that believes an NHL playered texted Eklund looking for advice, please see me. I have some great swamp land in Florida available.

A positive themed lockout puff piece by Ek? About as common as a Garth blog detailing his borderline-disturbing man-crush on Grigorenko.

Pass.

Be positive all you like Ek, more and more, people are finding other things to do. Hockey won't be the same....especially in some markets.

If Bettmans mandate is to kill the league then he is doing a hell of a job. Good work Gary

Disagree. I've had to deal with much bigger jerkoffs.

Just because I don't want to join you sucking bettmans little red rooster doesn't make me a fehr fan. I have said both sides need to give. Your hard on for bettman is laughable.

That's OK if you prefer to side with Fehr....it's your choice. Insulting someone is the lowest way to prove your point. I am not surprised, you've shown numerous times you can't debate anything without insulting other posters.
