This is the largest over sight in Hall history...just wrong.. - bixll
Here's the problem I've always had with the HHOF, which is somewhat related to Henderson: it seems like they place a huge emphasis on longevity of career over flashes of brilliance.
Does Mike Gartner really belong in the HHOF? He was an above average player for a very long period of time, but he was never a 1st or 2nd team all-star. He just wasn't that good.
Joey Mullen? Even with the US discount, he just shouldn't be there, in my humble opinion.
Lindros' career was cut short. But is there any doubt that at one time, he was the most exciting player in the league? One of the top scorers in the league, who could also destroy you physically. But his career was cut short by injuries, and so the HHOF is now ignoring him. Sorry, but that's just wrong.
Having said all that, I don't think Henderson should be in the Hall. Sorry, but 8 games doesn't make a career. |

I would agree, if we were not still talking about the event...Every year, this is one of the most pivital points of hockey in the history of the game. It put Canada on the hockey map.

I should add that if they did put him in, I wouldn't be opposed to it, either.

Because he was never the best player on his team. He was never even the second best player on his team.
0 awards. 0 award nominations.
Never named to the 1st or 2nd All-Star team.
For a guy who is best known for scoring goals, he only had one 50 goal season, in an era when everyone did.
He was above average for a very long period of time.
You gonna put Dwayne Roloson in the Hall of Fame? |

Which makes him an above average player for a very long period of time.
But he was never exceptional.
So if you want to celebrate the fact that he played such a meek game that he never got injured, go for it.
To me, that shouldn't get you in the HHOF.
17 seasons in which he was never a player to get excited about.
17 seasons in which an opposition coach never said before the game, "Keep your eyes out for Gartner - that guy can kill us if we aren't careful." |

Yes and if he's gets another 11 straight I'll petition him for the HHOF.

I agree 100% with everything you say. Obviously you have to be a pretty good player. But if you could somehow go for 20 years, you can really rack up the points. |

He was the fastest player in the league and potted 30 or more every year. That's fairly exciting.
700 goals.
Seven hundred goals.
