1) Why would they bring in a goalie with that much time and money remaining on his deal when they have 2 world class goalie prospects like Lindback and Valisevski?
2) Not a chance in hell are the Canucks getting a player like Lecavlier in return for Loungo. Take Komisarek from the Leafs and be happy with it because the rest of the league has no interest and Burke knows he's got you guys bent over a barrel.

Oh man are the Canuckleheads going to hate on you.... they believe that Luongo with that fat albatross retirement contract is going to get them a prime prospect ++++ ... because "he's top 5"... even though Schneider is obviously more top 5.... or something like that.

The only way the Canucks end up with more than a salary dump and "perhaps" a middling pick is IF the deal that includes Luongo is expanded. Obviously they love to get rid of Ballard's contract, and have freqently expressed a lack of desire to Mason Raymond's new ticket price... I would guess the same will be true for Edler. But their desire to rid themselves of those contracts doesn't translate into those players being all-stars and highly desireable. Unfortunately, the fan base and Gillis don't seem to realize the same is true of Luongo - who they themselves have ousted at the #1.

Edler is extremely attractive. Luongo's contract is nowhere near as bad as many make it out to be. The Canucks aren't going to get Gardiner, a first and Lupul for Luongo but the deal will be more than a salary dump.

Don't bother trying to explain hockey to a Tor fan they haven't had a hockey team since 67 . They have forgotten what hockey is

Out of curiosity what exactly are the rumours?
Personally I would love to have a guy like Malone on our left wing since we are thin in that position.

The rumors that consistently pop up have Malone returning to Pittsburgh. Their struggle to find wingers for Crosby is well documented and Malone has a history there. The deal I heard about at the last trade deadline was something built around Malone and Paul Martin.

I don't think anyone other than Vancouver fans sees Schneider or Luongo as a Top 5 goalie in the league.

Yup. The Canucks would love to be rid of a big 26 year old all-star defenceman who hits like a train and has improved his point totals every year except for one injury-shortened season.

I just hope they can find a team that will take that burden off their hands.

It'll be a challenge.

I'll do you a favor. Edler for a 7th. Done deal. Thanks.

I would take him on the Leafs in a heartbeat.

Him on the 2nd line with Grabo and JVR would be sweet.

One problem I have with him, is he's often injured now, so he will fit right in.

Done! But I don't think Yzerman would be as generous as you—almost guaranteed that 7th round pick could contribute more than Edler, and would make a better partner for Hedman...

Maybe we can go back to a 9 round draft? I mean, I'm not overly comfortable shipping out a seventh rounder for a plug like Edler.

That might be more suitable. Is there a bad contract you guys could add to the deal to even it out?

Unfortunately not, but what we'll do is sign some AHL guy to a 15-year deal worth $105M and then just ship him off to you as well. That should even things out, hopefully.
