Me too.

To be honest Bure seems so disinterested about the whole thing. I don't think it's a significant issue in his life at all.

That's probably why I'm so indifferent about the idea as well.

- bloatedmosquito

Only players interested in being up there should have their numbers retired?
If Naslund is up there then Bure should definitely be up there. Without Bure the Canucks (if they hadn't relocated) probably wouldn't have Rogers Arena. Their run in 94 wouldn't have happened without him either. Best Canuck and one if the most talented NHL players ever. If that doesn't warrant getting your jersey retired I don't know what does.

Bure was always like that in a interview...always guarded, constantly shrugging while he talks...almost in a defensive manner over any question at all. Thats his personality.... kind of Dave Nonis like in front of a camera.

Hang his number up and I bet he would make the odd trip up.

Besides, I'm not really sure that really matters when you are retiring a number. It's about what the player did, not what he's going to do.

I mean, how often does Gretzky or Messier show up in Edmonton? Do you think Oilers fans think less of them because they don't live there? I doubt it.

- IanEsplen

Fairly often...who made calls to JSchultz? Messier and Fuhr were two players skating with youth players last month. Many of these guys do stuff with the organization.

The Pa and NHL are going to meet again tomorrow. I think they are going to pull it off guys. If the two sides cannot see an agreement, that obstical would have reared it's ugly head by now and they would have walked. Either side would have realized this from the very beginning and discussions would have broke down. Instead we have 4 meetings in 6 days and another tomorrow. Even if they do walk away at this point...how could the gap not have closed by now considerably?

There will be an announcement by Monday. B5

...and Naslund wouldnt play for the Canucks if the coach returned. He wanted out as well but he didnt request a trade having his contract soon exipring. Still, his loyalty eventually faded as well. There his Jersey is up in the rafters^^^^ after taking this team nowhere.
- boonerbuck

Naslund was on the downside of his career and wasn't enjoying himself as the team transitioned from Crow's 'defense-is-for-losers' approach to AV's 'you-guys-all-suck-except-for-Lu-so-don't-try-to-make-anything-happen-offensively' approach. His $6m looked like an albatross next to his production. I can't blame him for wanting a change.

I was also not in favour of having his jersey retired and certainly not so soon after his retirement. But whatever, it's done and it's not the worst. He was one of the best players in the league at his peak and he was a good guy in the community. I don't begrudge him the honour.

So what your saying is by next Friday the canucks will announce they have traded Luongo to the Leafs for Bozak, Ashton and Franson?

Nope. Never.

Only heroes deserve to be sent to the rafters. #10 was not a hero. Great (frank)ing player. Exciting, incredibly skilled, with a bit of a mean streak. The best player to ever wear a canuck jersey.

But he's not a hero.

- bloatedmosquito

He was a hero to me. Broke my heart when he asked for a trade....until years later when I found out the other side of the story, and how bad the Canucks treated him at times.

Deserves all the accolades—the hall, and the rafters at Rogers.

I agree. Llike I said, I was on the fence whether I thought it should be up there. My point is, if Naslund is up there... surely Bure should be.

That's why I said earlier that (in my opinion) the rafters are reserved for our hockey heroes. Not just for hockey players with great stats. That's why Trevor's up there. Same with Stan.

Other fan bases like to compare our retired numbers with their retired numbers. Laughter usually follows and they are justified. In the stat books our guys don't hold up. But that doesn't matter. They are important to us for more than their stats.

Pavel Bure is better than any player who ever played for the Toronto Maple Leafs. We can't say the same about Smyl, Linden and Naslund.

We will be able to say that about the Sedins though.

I do see Raymond in the deal. I would be quite happy with Reimer being included. My proposal has been since June of Lu for Bozak, Ashton and Franson/Finn/Percy. The more I think about it, the more I think Raymond will go to Toronto and something like Mike Brown or a 3rd rounder will comme back our way. If the deal is Lu and MaRay for Bozak, Ashton, Reimer and Franson/Finn/Percy, I would be very happy. That deal will 3/4 of the canucks needs.

This is actually true. Unless you include rent a player Ron Francis. If you include him, he is far better then any Canuck.

The only thing that scares me away from Bozak is the face offs. Does he make 50% very often? I don't seem to remember him holding his own very well there. Our 3rd line will struggle...

I don't have a number % wise or the ambition to look it up but I actually think Bozak is a way above average face off man. I think his play making ability would help the 2nd pp unit as well. He is way overcast as a 1st line center but could be a great 3rd liner with the ability to step up to 2nd on occasion. From the beginning of all this, realistically (because we ain't getting Versteeg, or Gardiner and a 1st etc)I have said Gill is needs to have this guy in any deal with Toronto.

Happy for Bure and the Canucks as an organization, that they can celebrate one of the greatest goal scorers of all time and retire his number. The timing seems about right as he enters the HHOF. The first Canuck drafted player, to the best of my knowledge, to enter the HHOF.

A lot of people became Canuck fans because of this guy, he put bums in the seats at a time when they badly needed it. What he did on the ice will probably never be matched, the best and most exciting Canuck of all time!

I think it is, but you'll never see that from him. That's not the type of person he is, and he never will be IMO. This is a huge honor for anyone, I believe he's a smart enough man to know that.
