@TSNBobMcKenzie: Doesn't sound like things going well with NHL-NHLPA but doing play by play/making sense of offers we know so little about = mug's game.

Damn you NHL and NHLPA!!!!! Damn you both to hell!!!!

eagles GM and reid have an excellent relationship, i know for a fact that he loves reid. firing him would NOT be easy.
- LetsGoIsles

The Owner, Jeff Lurie will be the one making that decision. But the same principle applies between those two.

If this results in the NHL walking away, or the rhetoric starting to fly from either side. Kiss the Season goodbye!

in direct contrast to what eks says, ive heard this over and over..

“To echo others, huge afternoon in nhl labor negotiations. Will either be traction or this can go south quickly. Wednesday didn’t end well.”

fehr's gonna keep pushing and pushing imo.

some may call this his job, but a negotiator also needs to know when enough is enough and sign the deal.
dont be surprised if the nhl closes up there briefcases in exasperation and this season is done

Fehr is an idiot just like Bettman...two friggin ego maniacs, that is why this deal isn't already done...and the owners are a bunch og jaggs...and the players are just as bad, they will make a deal that covers their asses, but not the next young guy coming into the league in a year or two

Most likely a walk away....it's rumoured the deal involves going to 50% share over 3 yrs...

Yup....that young guy will have the luxury of a cba that limits his moves, and a decreasing revenue stream after all the major sponsors pull out after another lost season.

@Real_ESPNLeBrun: NHLPA's offered concept to NHL on Make Whole would see players go down to 50-50 of HRR by Year 3. So there's a phase-in element to it

Donno how bad this is gonna piss off the owners

well.... if the body of the conversation over the last few days made the NHL realize the PA was flat out not going to agree to a full drop off then maybe not.

3 years isnt really that long to drop 7%.. thats more than 2% a year

why?

table 1 good offer. where u both make sacrifices on everything.

not 2 where each offer gives up _____, but 'wins' everything else.

That's not soon enough imo. The pa is basing those projections off of what they WOULD make at 57%.

Given that there is currently no cba in place, that's a massive fallacy.

agreed. however take note on how fast the PA went back to the table after the cancellation of the winter classic.

they know that was the one thing REALLY pressuring the owners to strike a deal.

I think the PA became more flexible after that.. hence the continued meetings

the winter classic was the NHL calling the unions bluff imo... and it was the right call (my perception as of right now anyways)

Agreed. The NHL really doesn't have much to lose at this point, players on the other hand will never see the $ they don't get paid on.

Either way, I think there will be some back and forth over the coming week...at least they're speaking the same language now - getting to this point has been key.

The PA was at 57% for one year. They worked their way up to that percentage. It is only fair to work down in steps also. Probably starting at around 53-54%.
