Who the (frank) said that? Rehabibulin sure, but a big no to cutting Dubnyk... And Roy/Bunz have potential, but they're nowhere ready for the NHL.

You're my pissbucket. Open up, son.

Yup, shouldn't have been a question whether to pick him or Murray. Hall, RNH, Eberle, Yakupov, Schultz and Klefbom is a ridiculously talented group of young players for just one team to have and the whole "they won't be able to afford them" thing is overblown IMO and mostly just other team's jealous fans. The Oilers are going to be stacked and a powerhouse soon enough.

good post. they'll make the money work.

like chicago, u pay your core and build around them. all the while remaining a contender. even if there's a year or two where you're marginally worse due to a weaker third line etc, you'll always be in the conversation with a young core like that.

worst case, you're gonna get a ton in return to fill any weaknesses if u do in fact decide to move one of them

but first step is for them to actually develop to carry us to that level........

Jesus... He gets some points for the getting rid of Khabibulin thing though. Did I happen to mention that I dislike Khabibulin?

YOU SHUT YOUR WHORE MOUTH!!!

You'll see what Gagner can do when he finally gets to play with talent. In 2019 when the NHL returns.

i want him to succeed. kids got heart and character you cant just teach.

as you well know, i just look at how soft our top 6 is and i get worried. he's the only one of that group im willing to part with.

if he gets 60, we're able to stand up to the physical pressure night after night and hes even just adequate defensively, ill gladly take the i told u so's

There was never a question on who the Oilers would pick, that was pure media horsesh!t. Everyone knew Yak was a gem. The Oilers won't be able to afford all of their stars with a reduced salary cap when Nuge, Yak and Schultz come back up for re-signing. Nuge and Yak are better than Hall and Ebs. Money is money. Do you think either will accept less than what Ebs and Hall got? Nuge, maybe. Russia, deffinitely not, he'll go home if he doesn't get what he wants. With a reduced salary cap the Oilers hands are going to get tied if they want to have a complete roster. That being said, they have three years before Yak needs a new contract so if they can get a real goaltender and some help on defense I don't see why they can't compete for a Cup in Yak's third year.

You really don't have a clue do ya???? The cap is and always has been a percentage of revenue sharing, as revenues tend to increase each year, the cap goes up and will continue to grow. Get it? Good. Now run along back to yost's blogs troll.

First off, there was nothing even remotely close to trolling in what I posted. If calling people trolls for no reason makes you feel cool in front of your Oiler buddies then good for you.

I'm well aware how the salary cap operates and I'm also aware that after this season the cap will be dropping significantly. If the league continues to grow at a pace similar to what it has over the last 7 years then yes, down the road the Oilers will be able to afford everyone. That's assuming the league continues to grow so rapidly which is overly optimistic considering we are in another lockout currently that will absolutely damage the game and its revenues in the near future which, in turn, damages the potential for the salary cap. The NHL's revenue growth isn't limitless or ifinite, this isn't the NFL. Get it?

Simspson's a wienerhead.

Paajarvi will be Pj Axelsson

I remember when the Oilers were supposed to cut Dubnyk and Kubhabibualaiubn because Roy and Bunz were plenty good enough.

The Oil Kings this year are a disaster in their own zone and their rush play isn't the same as last year.

Laughs is a pissbucket

i think you're going to be a little disappointed with the way Klefbom turns out if you think he has franchise defenseman potential. I mean, maybe he has that potential, but I'd say the odds are pretty low. Also, I don't get how Hartikainen and Marincin leap frog Paajarvi based on a one month sample size of AHL play, and how Teemu's potential is now a whole line higher than Paajarvi's, when Paajarvi's scoring rates are still higher than Teemu's in both the NHL and AHL.
I'd argue Hartikainen is hitting pretty close to his potential where Paajarvi's barely scraped his own.

The issue Rutt had with you is that you spew the same tripe that has been heard over and over.

"Edm won't be able to afford their players."

They have 7 mil in space right now. So with the current cap ceiling there is room.

Figure the Goalie Money is set up, Khabby is out but another takes his place and the money stays about the same.

Defense. Whitney is up at the end of the year, and will get about the same, 4 mil. Sutton is done, Peckham is done. Smid gets a raise (he'll take Souray's payoff of 1.5mil). At worst Edm is down a Dman, but saving 3.5 mil. Bring another kid up for much less. JSchultz is making 3.75 mil now and is under contract for another year. Figures he makes the same after, if not slightly more (see the 3.5.). Add to this that they have 8 Dmen signed and can eliminate ( or just not bring up) a contract is need be.

Forwards. Hemsky has one more year and Nuge is up at the same, I smell a contract shift. Yak is 2 more after this one, Horc is up at the same time, definite contract shift there. Gagner is up after this year and this is an important year for him to proven his worth. The Hordichuk and Petrell are up and expendable, replaced by Some of the OKC crew at similar numbers, if not cheaper. Eager is gone after next year, Belanger the same, again Bottom 6 guys that are replaceable by cheaper younger players. Jones is a guy that is up this year and I hope to get him signed again at a similar number. Plus Edm has 14 forwards signed, they can drop a contract, just like with Defense.

All told The Oil are keeping the same numbers they have right now (if not getting lower in a short term). The Cap Ceiling will drop. Sure, but they are far enough below that it is not an issue for a few years. Just as important is the fact they have their full team signed.

So go to the Bruins, Canucks, Sharks blog and tell them they are in trouble due to too many contracts and not enough Cap space.
