Don't let him bother you, Bloatsie.

He's just a troll who likes to come in to Leafs threads to stir up trouble.

Remember: he wins when we get upset.

I agree in principal with what you are saying here... however this particular wave of commentary - meaning Cherry's and that of rest of Toronto media is all based on commenting on each other's commentary... i.e. opinions. So in short don't put too much value on it...

All Cherry seems to be saying is that its unlikely if Luongo has a choice that he would chose a crazy hockey market like Toronto over his home in Florida... which seems pretty reasonable logic to me.

Whether Toronto really wants him is merely a factor of how little the Leafs are wiling to give up to get him.. and with that fat long contract (please read this part Canucklehead fans)... the Canucks won't be getting anything meaningful in terms of quality youth for him. Any mention of Gardiner, Kadri, Frattin, Rielly, Finn, or high draft picks is just plane stupid... there's no way Burke/Nonis are giving up any of those guys unless there is significantly more coming back from the Canucks.

It will be a bad contract and mid-to-low round pick - nothing more.

And for the record I don't think the Leaf fans are beating this drum at all.. I'm seeing a lot more of this from Canuck fans and TOronto media looking for something to right about. Maybe they should get out of their nice warm offices and go watch a few junior games... like Cherry does - rather than relying on talking to each other to dream up lame storries or theories.

And Eddie Lack will be better than both Schneider and Luongo, no doubt.

Plus we have Jensen as the next Naslund, Kassian as the next Bertuzzi with Schroeder as the next Morrison. Plus Weber will be traded here next summer for Raymond, Ballard and a 2nd. Stacked!

Honestly, at HB we have 2 or 3 huge homers and the rest of us just sarcastically make fun of them sometimes and people start to think that we're actually expecting a 1st and Reilly/Gardiner for Lu.

Again, Tallon stated in the media he had interest in acquiring Luongo. He just didn't want to give them Bjugstad, who was the main piece in the deal Gillis wanted.

Fla's offer would probably be the weakest, considering their goalie situation, but that doesn't mean they don't want him, as admitted by Tallon himself.

Fleury was a great player, but he wasn't a goalie, and he retired a few years ago.

Where does Luongo place in the top-5?
- Aetherial

he used to be the entire top 5.... just ask the Canuckleheads... except when he wasn't ... and then he was top five until the 7th game of the series against Boston... and then he wasn't.. and now even though Schneider is "clearly" better and has been annointed by the Canucks brain trust, Luongo is clearly not in the top 5 BUT will no doubt bring top 5 trade value in return.

Or something like that.

Its west coast, rain soaked into the top of the head logic... I have a hard time articulating it....

I couldn't agree more. Though I think that bringing up spelling, especially of a players name, should get you permenantly banned.

Yup - that would be a problem for both Luongo personally and for Gillis... who has been desperately trying since the draft to create some value for a guy with about 8 years or so remaining on a contract for a guy who they(Canucks management) must be feeling is already in decline.

More power to Gillis for trying.... but despite the assistance he's getting from teh Toronto media who keep bringing this subject up.. but Gillis ain't getting Bjustad, and he ain't getting anyone's first round pick or similar either.

But Komisarek (otherwise known as Krapasarek and a 4th round pick sounds just fine and dandy to me... .not because I would want Luongo... but because I would pay to see Krapasarek leave).

Did you watch Leafs games? The 2nd half of the season, Gus seemed to let in AT LEAST one bad goal a game...wrist shot from the point, slapshot from neutral zone, bad angle wrister that he misplayed...he did make some big saves, but he also let in some very bad goals at bad times (game tied late in 3rd).
- BoBBeR56

I wonder why? maybe because the leafs ruined his confidence and ron wilson hanging him out to dry every other game before when he ACTUALLY tried. He gave up at that point and i dont blame him. They RUINED his confidence, they seriously (frank)ed his confidence big time. Plays his heart out, the team hangs him out to dry and just falls apart in games? I wouldnt care much either if i played. If a team cant even hang in, in the first period, why should he care for the rest of the game by then which he finally learned how our system is runned or how the players play in front of him. I felt sorry for gus, hope he has a better career in detroit where he is NOT mistreated and has a better team in front of him. In toronto he was mistreated no doubt.

since Lu makes more than the panthers he probably asked Roberto if he'd be willing to chip in for the arena's rent

Bozak and Frattin and a Second is more than enough to get the trade done. It will be two of the three with Lombardi thrown in. The contract is not as bad as people say. The Leafs are the richest team, they can toss him in the minors if he sucks and avoid the salary cap. Based on the low cost of aquiring him I say you gotta do it.
- Jimmy_Tea

As a Leafs fan - please stop spewing this stuff. Seriously ... the whole put in the minors stuff just doesn't fly with Leaf management - just look at Crapasarek... Luongo, already older, probably feeling (justifiably) burned by what's happened in Vancouver.. isn not going to be motivated if he were to be traded ... and if he thinks Vancouver is tough place to play... Toronto would be a whole other league.

Its a bad contract, overpriced and carries the post 35 year old risk. That ALONE makes it bad, unattractive, regardless of how good or great anyone thinks Luongo is or has been.

There's no way anyone - except perhaps Pat Quinn would deal Bozak, Frattin and a pick for a declining, 33 year old goalie with 10 years (or whatever) left on his deal. Just won't happen.

That is ridiculous. So if you disagree with a dumb unsubstatiated statement, you must be a troll? Again, I'll say it: Schneider has never been a starter, never started 40 games, never won a playoff series. And he is top five? Lundquist, Rinne, Kipper, Price, Ward, Hiller, Luongo, Rask, Miller, Quick

Thats ten and I know I'm forgetting guys.

- Jimmy_Tea

agreed.. anyone who questions that moving forward with schneider isnt a bit of a gamble on the nucks part is fooling themselves.

tossing a guy in the minors is more than just about money

if the leafs management get the reputation of dumping guys into the minors every time they dont pan out then it will become difficult to sign free agents.

players want to know their team will stick with them.. through the bad and good.

the is also the issue of bumping a prospect out of the AHL lineup.
