Luongo is a lot stronger than people think. He'd relish being in another hockey crazy market. Especially if he could get them into the playoffs. He's not going to ride off into the sunset......

Did you watch Leafs games? The 2nd half of the season, Gus seemed to let in AT LEAST one bad goal a game...wrist shot from the point, slapshot from neutral zone, bad angle wrister that he misplayed...he did make some big saves, but he also let in some very bad goals at bad times (game tied late in 3rd).
- BoBBeR56

Yeah, for every GREAT save Gus made, he turned around and whiffed on a lobbed wrister that floated into the net.

I'm not sticking up for the leafs defense as it's been god awful in recent years, but Gus had a major problem with making the easy save late in the game.

If Luongo's contract is anything like Visnovsky's, his no trade clause may no longer be valid once he's traded...then again, maybe the new CBA will address that issue.

even if it is voided.. if he proves not to be capable long term who is going to take on that cap hit

if he regresses to back up (which is starting already) it will be like having another komi contract on our hands.. over priced and pretty much unmovable.

Morning, everyone.

As much as I would love to re-hash the Luongo to Toronto roomers, let's try to keep things fresh.

From today's Toronto Star:

http://www.thestar.com/sp...-green-light-in-fort-erie

Sources told the Star that officials may also approach the National Hockey League to discuss hosting an outdoor game.

If you look at the picture:

You'd have to put up an awful lot of temporary seating, as the 65,000 seats are spread over quite a bit of distance (1.6 km oval, so each long side is at least a half a km).

But if you did, you could easily sell 120,000 seats for a Leafs/Sabres game.

Easy, peazy, lemon squeezie.

From what I understand (I read a lot of Hockeybuzz) Luongo guarantees that the Leafs make the playoffs for the next six years.

Guaran-effing-tees it.

...so basically Cherry is just regurgitating exactly what Luongo has said in his countless interviews on the topic...and Mike is then regurgitating that and passing it off as another blog.... Luongo to T.O, now thats fresh press right there.

When the news of what had happened at Agrigentum reached the Roman Senate [262 BC], in their joy and elation they no longer kept to their original designs and were no longer satisfied with having saved the Mamertines and with what they had gained in the war itself, but, hoping that it would be possible to drive the Carthaginians entirely out of the island and that if this were done their own power would be much increased, they concentrated their attention on this project and on plans that would serve their purpose (Pol. 1.20. 1-5)

Here is the concern. Luongo is not the same guy from a few years back. He has lost much of his leg and foot speed. Because of this, he is not able to cover the bottem of his net. He has difficulty moving across the crease and adjust to the oncoming two man rush and picking up on his angles. He lets in soft goals. Why would the Leafs give up a blue chip talent for a goalie who is losing his skills?
- spatso

Says one ex Leafs goalie coach, or whoever it was on the radio show. You might want to put quotes around your entire paragraph.

Luongo played fantastic last season. Every goalie lets in a softie from time to time.
