I actually didn't expect that. But he was used pretty close to a 7th dman for the entire season.
Hal Gill did what he did quite well in Toronto. He really was just in over his head, and got roasted for struggling in a spot he really shouldn't have been in, in the first place.
He was much more insulated in Pittsburgh. |

Injured for parts of the season.
But hey, who cares if he plays the most when it matters the most? |

He wasn't. Gonchar and Boucher both played 25 games that year. Their average ice time was higher but Gill was in the top four when he was healthy. The playoffs proved that. |

He averaged under 15 mins a night even strength. He was not top 4. |

Orpik, Scuderi, Letang and Gill were the four highest averages who played more than 60 games. Gonchar and Boucher played only 25 games each.
But I guess in your world that's a 7th defender. |

Explains why he was top four in the playoffs. Y'know, when it matters the most.
Right, right, I know, he was a 7th defender. |

Really, you guys are squabling over Hal Gill. I know its dead around here, but come on, there are better things, like all these high scoring junior players in Kamloops.....are any of them worth burning a pick on? |

Lipon is the only one who isn't drafted.
And no, probably not. |

Tyler Johnson? Sometimes man, you might find a diamond. Beyond the numbers, sounds like Lipon is just a late bloomer. Also, is Myles Bell eligible still?

Bell is, guy was an easy late first rounder until he killed his GF in a drunk driving incident in his draft year. Guy should be drafted easily, he's amazing, but that bad judgement will follow him forever. |

you didn't reply to the Tyler Johnson part Frechie
I'd grab Bell, I mean Heatley had a bunch of 50 goal seasons after killing his best friend. |

Hal Gill was not useless in Toronto. He was just playing a spot in the lineup that was way over his head. He was playing second pairing, like 20 minutes a night. For Pittsburgh, he barely hit the ice even strength, they played him very sparingly, and put him out there for a good portion of their PK minutes, and he ate them up nicely. These are things he did well in Toronto too, people just notice the glaring mistakes he made while he was playing big minutes even strength at full speed, which he couldn't handle. - prock
Gill was being used just as he should have been and was doing a good job. But he wasn't putting up 40 points a season, so Toronto fans thought he was useless. |
