holy (frank).. do you guys listen
TORONTO ISNT GOOD ENOUGH FOR LUONGO TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
man oh man.
edit: sorry.. but i feel like you guys are trying to say that i think luongo sucks
thats not true at all.. what i am saying is he isnt good enough to make a difference as drastic as 9 spots up in the standings within the next couple years. - Dozzer
It might be! I mean, we traded for Nash, Staal, Hodgeson, Lubo, Riberio, Turris and signed Semin and Jokinen!
Oh, nvm...those were other teams in the East... |

lol
i've said it before.. if the stars aligned and burke managed to pry a couple guys like getzlaf and perry away from their teams.. and then shored up the back end with a reliable stay at home vet.. then i would be not only on, but personally pushing the luongo bandwagon
on his own he isnt enough, on his own he's just a salary anchor. |

I could see him doing it for Kessel (for a variety of reasons), but other than that, I don't see who he would want to do that for. - Atomic Wedgie
Hypothetically .....Getzlaf or Perry or some other "save my job" type of player. |

Two good to very good seasons and two poor seasons. But hey, it's not like defenders need time and patience to develop or anything. - Two_For_Truth
I agree with that statement. Like I said, I'm reserving judgement, I can see this deal going either way. A ballsy move.....but like all Burkey's ballsy moves, he needs to follow it up. Unless they plan on using Reilly this season (which I really hope they don't.) |

If we can't play defence, why are you belly-aching about trading away Schenn?
His footspeed is too slow to be an effective defender in the NHL. That's not something you can cure with coaching or practice.
I'm not a big fan of JVR (he is big, but that's only on paper) but I'm not losing a minute of sleep over jettisoning Schenn. - Atomic Wedgie
Yes, because defenders are done developing by 23 years old.
Speed is correctable with proper instruction which the Leafs addressed. |

Oh that old BS statement eh? He was labelled as a defensive dman....who couldn't defend.
He had one good year, one decent year and two absolutely horrible years.
RIP in philly. - Fakepartofme
Welcome to Toronto where if you're not the best defensive defender by 23, you are deemed worthless. |

Burke was hellbent on getting size up front. So he sacrificed size along the blue line and got size up front. The difference? The guys he gave up actually used their size and the guys he acquired either don't use their size or don't use it as often as they should. All of this of course with a team that can't play defense. |

How long before Rielly and Finn are expendable because they didn't win the Norris? |

I drove a fair number of Oiler fans absolutely crazy for about 10 pages yesterday, spanning the good part of a full day, not a peep from a mod. If you tried that in a Nucks forum, you wouldn't get past 2 posts with micah around. You can post nothing but facts, 100% about hockey, but if one of those posts isn't 100% pro-Canucks, you're gone. |

Well, they traded size on the back end that uses it for size up front that doesn't so how about we say they're going to trade offense on the back end for offense up front that doesn't use it? |

You mean the guy that was too slow and useless in Toronto but was good enough to help Pittsburgh win a Cup?
No way! |

Hal Gill was not useless in Toronto. He was just playing a spot in the lineup that was way over his head. He was playing second pairing, like 20 minutes a night. For Pittsburgh, he barely hit the ice even strength, they played him very sparingly, and put him out there for a good portion of their PK minutes, and he ate them up nicely. These are things he did well in Toronto too, people just notice the glaring mistakes he made while he was playing big minutes even strength at full speed, which he couldn't handle. |

In 2008/2009, Hal Gill was 3rd on the Penguins in even strength ice time, 2nd in short handed ice time and 4th in overall ice time during the playoffs.
Thanks for coming out though. |

Playoffs only? He was used as total depth for most of the season. |
