Just saying, there are hundreds of other things wrong here or to complain about (which you're pretty good at doing and I'd say 7 times out of 10 you're usually right about). The Aulie for Ashton deal is nothing more than one player Burke pumped up to the press for a newer player that Burke pumped up to the press. Same Koolaid, different player.
As for the Schenn deal, I'll await the results before making any conclusions. - mykokes
The devil is in the details. A soft team that can't play defense should not be trading away tough, defensive defenders. |

You may have not heard but Wilson got fired... You should probably give it a little time before you just say its the team and not the system.. I seem to remember their goals against dropping pretty substantially when Carlyle took over. But this is hockeybuzz where facts don't matter. - Jay Uller
It's funny you mention facts and provide none. You seem to have remembered incorrectly because the GAA didn't drop substantially under Carlyle. The Leafs GAA without Carlyle was 3.05 and in the 18 games that Carlyle coached it was 3.56. |

The fact that you think Schenn is defensive at all is hilarious.
He could hit...great. He defensive "skills" did not exist. |

Two good to very good seasons and two poor seasons. But hey, it's not like defenders need time and patience to develop or anything. |

If we can't play defence, why are you belly-aching about trading away Schenn?
His footspeed is too slow to be an effective defender in the NHL. That's not something you can cure with coaching or practice.
I'm not a big fan of JVR (he is big, but that's only on paper) but I'm not losing a minute of sleep over jettisoning Schenn. |

Your Leafy thought of the day:
If the NHL gets its way on raising the UFA bar, Kessel will be a RFA in a couple of years.
Lupul will still be UFA at the end of this year.
And yes, Getzlaf and Perry would still be UFAs at the end of this year. Or at least they would still have the ability to become UFAs.

We wanted better team chemistry.
With no depth at forward and no depth at goaltender, having depth at defense threw the whole team off.
(And for the record, the Leafs are now pretty thin on the back line. Komi is now a needed part - scary, I know). |

2012 Calder Cup finalists = irrelevant - AHL doesn't matter.
2012-13 slow start = Leafs are effed for all time.
It's weird how that works, isn't it, Bloatsie? |

Works both ways Wedgie.
2011 Stanley Cup finalists = irrelevant - means the canucks were 1st losers.
2011 & 2012 Presedent's Trophy winners = irrelevant - stanley cup only thing that matters.

Oh that old BS statement eh? He was labelled as a defensive dman....who couldn't defend.
He had one good year, one decent year and two absolutely horrible years.

Yes, they are thin. If Liles plays like he did when he came back from injury, they are in bad shape.
On the upside, Blacker, Ranger and Holzer might fill the gap this year. Longer term Rielly, Finn, Percy look like NHLers, but not soon enough to save Burke's job. |

If your team starts a season with Blacker, Ranger and Holzer on their defense then you might as well buy your leafs MacKinnon jersey now. These guys are not even AHL ready. |

You forgot my favourite:
Luongo isn't a playoff goalie, as he let in 4 goals in game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals.

Any of my Marlies-watching friends have a report on Ranger?
I'm fascinated to see how this story plays out. |

I'm guessing they won't get the 28 or 10 UFA clause. They might get another year but I doubt 3.
The 5 year max term and 5% annual difference should close a few loopholes.
No word lately on what they might do to those "Luongo years" at the back end of the existing contracts. I wonder if the PA would take a position on that? |
