you let the hockeyyinsiderr get to you? His trade logic is so weak.
Yakupov is in quebec right now, so lets make a rumour of him getting traded there.
Sit back and watch the hit counts go up.

Your whole team can't be untouchable... that seems somewhat counter productive. You have to give to get, and if that means someone like yak, if it makes your team better you do it.

Though i agree with this statement, this trade is full of crap. the oilers have Schultz and Whitney, they need a shut down guy. besides if there is a forward heading out of Edmonton you gotta think it's Hemsky or Gagner

Valid points, I agree that Dubnyk hasnt had the chance to showcase his worth as a starter. He may very well turn out to be a very good #1.

As for defense, I think Smid is a solid shut down guy, but Im not sold on Whitneys health. Nick Schultz is good, not great.

I dont think Edm is in a situation where they're on a downward spiral, I just dont think they have enough pieces on the back end to really turn the corner. I know its early and they are a young team, but it seems a lot of there future success is built off player projections. Just my 2 cents.

good post.

the bolded part certainly isnt completely out to lunch. but i think with the guys we have now, if alot of things go right, we could go from terrible to average. this year.
i think alot has to do with petrys continued ascension..

but i agree that if we're ever goin to get our backend to elite status, so much depends on projected success. klefbom and schultz look like they could be great. but who knows. i also have high hopes for marincin and gernat too..

tambs should be looking to a stop gap and some nhl level talent to add to our defensive depth to help us NOW

Is there anyone on the Oilers that is NOT going to be a top player in the league some day?

Wait a minute, that was never agreed on. Thought this was out of the goodness of your hearts so they wouldn't miss each other.

Horcoff.

I don't know. If he is surrounded by a team of future hall of famers then he might be able to put up 40 or 50 goals a year. Maybe let him play a couple years with the Oilers cast of all-star forwards and get his trade value up then flip him for Crosby or Malkin.

Depends on if Tambi can convince 9 franchise players to sign for cheap. And I think he can. That would allow him to take on a guy like Malkin or Crosby who could centre the 4th line.

See, that's the problem. You'd put them on the 4th line, and that's a waste. Seriously, who would put Crosby, for the 2 games he can play healthy each season, on the 4th line?

We know Krueger is not conventional. I know it isn't ideal, but there are worse options for a 4th line centre than Crosby. If he's injured then you just role Nuge and see how many points he can break Gretzky's single season record by.

That's it? Or is that taking into consideration that Krueger rests him after January 1st when the Oilers lock up the President's Trophy?

Oilers are my second favorite team behind the Bruins, so I would love to see them return to relevance. Now I think Schultz is going to be very good along with Klefbom, but I don't think they will be a factor immediately. They are going to have growing pains, and those are especially felt at the defensive position. Luckily for the Oilers they are a young team so growing pains are expected. Only time will tell as to how these guys pan out. More than likely they will become NHL regulars and produce at a high level, especially the offensive players.
