You’re crazy. Having two lines never works. It’s not like Crosby and Malkin ever won a cup. Or Datsyuk and Zetterberg.

I know they don’t. But what’s the point of trading away the forwards you need to win a cup because you don’t have the D? That doesn’t really get you anywhere, other than short of the forwards you need to win a cup.

its pretty obvious the return on either Hall or Yaks in a few years will be enormous, and with already having Nuge/Eberle on the 1st and Hall or Yaks on the 2nd line you can fill that 2nd line with your other impressive prospects you'd still have a superstar on that 2nd line (nvm the return if you trade Gagner, and/or Hemsky) and would therefore still have 2 very strong lines and would have gotten a good D out of it too

look Pitts is the perfect example, the 3rd star on O was Jordan Staal, but he's not the same type of player as Malkin and Crosby...whereas with the Oil all 4 of em are offensive types (for now) you can easily still work with 3 of 4 and have a more stacked team with the return nvm the prospects you guys have

sidenote: do you think it would have yielded the same results if say Yaks was the same age as Staal around 08 and Pitts had a chance to get him for Staal would the long search for a sniper on crosby's wing being over have been worth the incredible young shutdown center that played a key role in their cup win??...i'm not so sure but thats jus speculation...just trying to point out you dont need overkill on O just because you can....its been proven to be less effective than a strong allround team in winning cups....unless we're talkin 80s

or you can choose to be the Caps....pure offense and by the time you figure out that wont win cups...jus president trophies and such...it'll have become too expensive

Everyone saying the Oil need to trade one of the young studs for some D can kiss my ass.

The Oil were in the middle of the pack last year in even strength goals allowed with their patched together Defense. Calgary allowed 151 goals against. Edmonton 153. Pretty (frank)ing close. Yet Calgary is great on D and has a top goalie. Edmontons D and goalie suck according to all the haters.
They were 22nd in the league in goals for/ against at 0.91. Which means they had more trouble scoring than defending. Mostly due to injuries.

Dubnyk had middle of the road numbers as a goalie.

I will be willing to bet they are a huge improvement this year.

You can MAYBE use Hall’s game more than Seguin’s, until you get rid of Horcoff. Then you’ll be looking for a two way centre. If you had a 30 goal, 70 point guy (which Seguin is ALREADY), with potential for more, that can fit that role, AND a top scoring role, wouldn’t that be nice? Instead of a one way goal scoring winger?
- prock

Seguin has never broke 30 goals or 70 points. Try again TROLL!

so angry these kids lol

nobody's hating, im sure the Nucks and Bs would have loved to keep both sets of star and superstar goalies....but money brings you back down to earth quick...we're all jus trying to find ways for the oil to avoid being either premature Hawks or stanley cup (Presidents trophy) winning Caps....thats all

Oilers fans talk alot about a stacked future team but the fact is the Nucks have been THAT for the past 3 years....no cups

but hey if its all about O! i'm not sayin i wont enjoy watchin the oil score 8 goals on everyone....but the playoffs are a different kind of monster....and the Habs managed to beat Pitts AND Washington at the height of their offensive prowess of recent, in the same year no less...so....meh

Well you should finally be good. The odds are in your favour after picking first 8 times in a row.

No, it's true. I read it on Twitter as well.

Your number of untouchables is laughable. You don't make the playoffs. The only new players are two rookies. Really? Live it the real world please.

Hall for Seguin - Boston would hang up
Eberle for Landenskog - Avs would say no although this is the closest one
RNJ for Tavares - Isles say no thanks
Klefbom for Hamilton - Bruins say no
Shultz for Letang - Pitts says no and laughs as they hang up

So you would rather not have Seguin, Landenskog, Tavares, Hamilton and Letang? Really? See they're not untouchable. Don't say that. It makes you seem like such a silly little man.

Feel free to say that's the core and nobody will disagree. Call them untouchable and you should lose your blogging license if there's such a thing.

I think people are taking the whole 'untouchable' thing way too literally.

How bout we call them the core players... ie the 6 best young guys the team is building around.

Could they be traded? Sure... But it's highly unlikely at least in the immediate future.

It doesn't matter anyways because they will be moving to Seattle very soon. And don't pretend you would be ok with that either. Then who would ya get to hate on and have a rivalry with? The Casucks?

this seems wildly pessimistic.

im hoping for 80 goals a year and a wing in the hall of fame dedicated solely to him.
with construction to begin after his first game in the nhl
