It's not a lump sum. It's 2/3 of whatever the value remaining on the contract is, spread out over double the remaining length. So if he was to be bought out on 6/15/13 the total remaining value would be $36m. 2/3 of that is ~$24m. So with 8 years left on his contract we would have to pay him $24m over the next 16 years. |

AT LEAST 30 GAMES.
Ironically, I believe my retort to those comments of yours, at one point, was "he'll be lucky to play another 30 games in his entire career".
How very prophetic. |

This is the problem... he shouldn't be one of our top 5 players. Sad state of affairs, but the logic for landing in the lottery year after year. At best he should be a guy who sees 8 to 10 minutes a game. He should go out there after we give up a goal or playing like we need a spark and throw the body around - drop the gloves and change the tempo. He should not be on the PK or PP, nor playing 15 to 20 minutes a game. We will never improve from the 75 point team that we are.
BTW - agree with your caption about Ludmir and his contract, won't play for us but some how the dough will stay with us. - IslesinKnow
He's not one of our top 5 players by any means. Top 5 fan favorites maybe, but that doesn't make him one of our best. The top 4 should be so easy to name that I'm not even going to do it. #5 could probably be hotly debated by all and have nobody be all that wrong.
As LGI pointed out, he averaged 12:09 per game. Good for 19th on the team, or 15th if you take away guys that played <10 games. So 15th out of an 18 man roster. I'd venture to guess that you can't really complain too much about that. The only guys that had (mostly) full-time spots that averaged less than him were Reasoner, Pando, and Nino. |

definitely not top 5 players in regard to points...but when it comes to what he is asked to do and to do it consistently, he is top 5 on the team. |

I didn't mean strictly in terms of points. Martin is great at what he does, no doubt there. The way I look at it is, who are the top 5 guys that if they up-and-disappeared tomorrow...have the hardest skill-set to replace. My personal top 5 most important players are Tavares, Moulson, Hamonic, Streit, and Nielsen, in no particular order. Doesn't mean I don't love Martin though, I just think looking at those 5 that they would all be harder to replace than Martin. |

Not to nitpick, but he played 26 that year.. so I was off by 4....
then 8 the next year & a few this year in Germany..
my math has that as over 30 for the rest of his career....
XxNYIxX
P.S. i hear he's not missing any time with this rumored injury.

obviously I mean NHL. He probably shouldn't have played those last 8 games, looking at the stats...
I'm just giving you a hard time. Those posts went on for a couple of years, and you got pretty pissy about me calling him injury prone, so a little ribbing is fair. |

I saw that..how is that McDonald guy? Seems to be having a respectable year, but my gut tells me he's just a career AHL'er.
Also, how has Sundstrom looked? He's another one of my favorite non-high profile prospects. |

to me, id honestly rather have matt martin than streit or neilson...MM has more value to me then those 2.... |
|
|
|
first off that caption wasnt mine, its cptjml and i totally disagree with it....
second, dont confuse the word consistent (IE doing his job on a consistent basis) with most points scored.
third, he average 12 minutes a game (which is closer to the requested 8 to 10 as opposed to the 15 to 20)
and last but certainly not least, matt martin was #1 in hits (set a single season record) and #8 in majors...from a physicality standpoint, what else do you want from the guy? - LetsGoIsles
well said.... except need him to stop playing pp and pk as much as he does. Sometimes scary in the situations that he plays.

I wouldn't give up Nielsen for a lot of people, he's one of the top defensive forwards in the league. Streit..ehh you can definitely make an argument for it (especially now with his contract status) but I'm not positive what I'd do there. |

Some hasidic dude. I'm not even sure what he was running for. His commercials said his name like 15 times in 30 seconds.

I love this. A hurricane wasn't enough.
Now a snowstorm with 50 mph gusts, and its freezing. It will apparently be 66 on Sunday. When does December 21st get here? |

This weather is brutal.
On the positive side, Sandy unearthed an olddd shipwreck on Fire Island. Pretty wild.
