I thought Grigs played pretty well. He made a lot of slick passes in the offensive zone and put up a goal and an assist. We'll see how he does in game 2, but the real test will be against the O and the WHL squad. |

not a fan of Garth troll, just tired of all the Sabres haters coming here. If you don't like Garth, the Sabres or the fans why the hell are you here. - SABRES 89
If it's not Grigorenko bashing, its Cody and his parents. |

God damn the Q really sucks. In ten years or whatever, the OHL has never lost to Russia. Twenty three or twenty five consecutive wins or whatever. The q has won one game in four years. I don't feel like counting it up, but I think they have a losing record all-time. - prock
The Q sucks indeed. |

The last two mem cup champs, the first two in over ten seasons, 5 in thirty years, really doesn’t mean squat. In means there were two strong teams in a crap league. They’re regularly under-represented on Team Canada, they always fare the worst against Team Russia, Quebec typically gets it’s azz kicked in the U17 tourneys.
I mean, in fairness, the Q is the smallest of the three leagues, so they have less of a base to build a top all-star team out of, but not by that much.
It’s definitely the weak sister of the CHL.

Russian came in with what will probably be their actual roster at the world junior championship.
I'm not surprised the Q lost but I wouldn't be shocked if the OHL and WHL lost as well.
This being said, the Q is just as good as any league in the CHL. |

Then why do they consistently perform worse than the other two leagues when looking at benchmarks of the league as a whole? |

I was at the game and I attend Q games regularly. The Russians didn't dominate physically - actually, it was quite the opposite. They were lit up often with bone-crushing hits. Grigorenko looked good, but not a game-changer. His goal was impressive though. Very hard and pinpoint accurate. Good hands, but didn't make much of his chances when dangling in. I would give him another year in the Q or a year in the A before he goes up to the show. |
