I don't buy that. Playoffs is all that matters. They are still playing NHL caliber teams so what does it matter? - Arctic_AARDVARK
Some teams will have fewer home dates than others. That matters in more ways than one. |

They can do whatever the heck they want. I've officially locked the NHL out of my life for the upcoming season should it occur. Canceled my Center Ice package, rebooked the guys winter sports trip from a hockey venue to a city with Basketball and Football (N.O.L.A.). The lousy and greedy owners and players alike aren't getting one plug hard earned nickel from this cowboy, and I'm getting more and more disgusted by these losers by the day. As a guy on the radio said yesterday,... it's hard to win back a disgusted customer, and he's right. I don't tend to spend my money on things or in places that disgust me. They are gonna have to do something pretty special to win this fan back, but they'll have to wait for next year.... - scubasteve
But your a Flames fan, so you must have spent some money on Flames crap up to this point

What does it matter? There's 10-12 teams that play in front of as many fans cheering them on at home as they do on the road. |

well that obvious yeah... As long as all the teams have equal home/away games then it shouldn't really matter who they play. If they Leafs don't play Det Van Edm LA Col and play Ott or Buf 6 times ill be pissed. |

Gosh, maybe we should just cut all 10-12 of those teams out. I'm sure that will make the league much more stable. |

right.
having to rework a schedule from an 82 game season to a 70 game season is the difference between being able to start a season on a weeks notice, and 19 days not being sufficient, it just completely makes the entire thing impossible..
the nhl is a billion dollar enterprise, they have countless employees working these departments, with endless resources, and having to rework a schedule to compliment a 70 game season just curveballs everything?

Fewer home dates = less $$$.
And there's also home ice advantage to consider.
The NHL may be a mickey mouse league but they aren't going to put together a schedule that disadvantages some of its teams. |

Remember when everyone thought Phoenix was a great place for an expansion team, and someone moved a team there and fans showed up at first and games sold out, but the team sucked and fans realized ownership was inept and didn't give a rat's ass and fans quit showing up in increasing numbers until games were playing at about half capacity (if that)?
Wait, you thought I was talking about the Coyotes? No, I was talking about the NFL's Cardinals - and they only took about 3 years to turn a rabid fan base into one that refused to support a greedy owner who refused to put money into a perpetually 6-10 (or worse) team. |

edit: no I didn't think you were talking about the Coyotes. I stopped reading after the 2nd word then caught the last paragraph after I posted the yellow. |

poop! the extra 1 day of additional work required compared to the situation a couple weeks ago just went from having an extra 12 days to pull it off to 11. how will they ever manage to make it work with only an additional 11 days to pull off this one day of work?
seriously, you argue just for the sake of being a Richard. you look rediculous trying to argue that something minor that can probably be completed in a day with the manpower the nhl has, is impossible to complete in an extra week and a half compared to the october situation. you're just looking for attention at this point.. |

In 1994-95, they reached an agreement on January 11 and started playing January 20. Of course, the NHL had also been creating a new schedule each time games were cancelled to reflect the fact that the season was going to be shorter, so when they had an agreement they had a 48-game schedule ready to go; if they haven't been doing the same thing, they'll need a little bit of time to do that (even if it means throwing it into a computer and letting it spit a schedule out).
They can't do it all in 1 day, but starting on Black Friday is doable if they get a deal done in the next couple of days. - Irish Blues
Besides, Its fairly easy to make a 70-game schedule.
5 intradivisional games(2road, 3 home for half and vice versa for half): 5x4= 20
2 intraconferencial games(1 road and 1 home against each) 2x10=20
1 game against each opposing conference teams(home/road 50/50) 1x30=30
Not so difficult 70-game schedual and pretty easy for cpu to make after inputting parameters. Its not even unbalanced as u have 50/50 road-home game ratio. I really dont see your problem JDJ. |

Leafs would end up making the playoffs with a short season though - Symba007
Depends. Would the it be the Leafs who turn it on at the end? Or the Leafs who poop the bed at the end? |
