Would it be racist if Bozak dressed up like Brashear or Simmonds??

So if Bozak dressed up as the most recent memory of MJ when MJ was white, is that still racist? How in the hell dressing up like someone regardless of skin color is racist. Doesn't usually mean when you dress up like someone, you like that person or want to be him/her? I am sure Bozak loved MJ and liked his music and wanted to be him for a day. But in this day and age, it sickens me when media would put a spin on anything just to franking sell a story. Media should be ashamed of themselves. They are racist!!!

I dressed up like the Dictator this year, does that make me a terrorist?

I think it's time to bring back the "is this racist forum".

You want a classic example of crazy.

3 years ago 2 kids painted their face black and dressed up like PK Subban at a Hamilton Bulldogs game played at the Bell Centre. The media was all demanding an apology calling them racist and inexcusable.

The media just ran with it, sold stories not knowing that one of the guys who did this, was ummm, Mulatto.

That's hilarious. Can you say red in the face. Everyone is so sensitive and looking for reasons to call people racist these days. Not every white person who dresses as an african american are racist, no matter how much you want them to be.

Peter Tessier: Tyler Bozak is a Racist Right?
My thoughts on another NHL player getting on the wrong side of the racism debate.

I dressed up as DuffMan a few years back...but not cause the costume was awesome and I watched the show religiously while growing up...its cause I hate alcoholics/yellow people/beer/super heros/muscle men.

- Colin Dambrauskas

How could you hate beer? What are you a monster?

What Bozak did wasn't "blackface".

Mentioning anything related to Cohen in a discussion regarding racism is a discussion worth having... but not on this site.

It was only racist because MJ was white, he should have bleached his face instead.

Today you need to walk on eggshells bcause no matter what you do, you're insulting someone. I choose to do so every day.

I insult atheists by believing in god, Mormons by having one wife, Vegans by eating meat, Muslim Extremists for choosing one dirty girl over 50 virgins. I'm sorry people.

You experienced the cultural shift in Vancouver? So what, you were there when they went from having 4 black people to 6 black people?

Move to a real city.

Look I want to provide some context here. I think most get it but in case some don't please read:

What I'm getting at is to label Bozak as racist diminishes the fact that racist acts happen all the time in our society. While Bozak's costume was ill-advised and tasteless it's not a true example or racial prejudice but the argument is being made that by not discussing it as a racial issue is racist.

The article which triggered my thoughts was this one http://theleafsnation.com...yler-bozak-did-was-racist and a few tweets to links and thoughts from last year with Torres.

Calling it racist is nonsense.

If you are going to accuse Mr. Bozak of anything, it would be cultural insensitivity.

This is (imho) also nonsense.

He did not "don blackface" - the media needs to quit saying that.

Further, is there really anyone still out there who feels the sting of a racist "art form" from the post-Civil War era? I mean, really?

If he had bought a Michael Jackson mask at a costume store, this wouldn't be a problem (although it would be a problem to drink, eat, see properly and breathe). But he puts make-up on, and all of a sudden he is a racist.

Time to move on, people. Nothing to see here.

This Bozak story is not even news. Anyone who thinks his costume was racist really needs to lighten up.

It's Halloween, he was having fun. Jeff Blair of the Fan 590 was comparing it to Escobar's anti-gay comment on his eye-black. Not even close.

There was nothing derogatory at all in what he did.

I dunno Pete, most get it...just think the whole So and So is a racist because of a halloween costume, and any link to "black-face" is silly.

A racist would not dress as a cultural icon of the racial stock he despises. Dressing up with a face of make up on Halloween is not an example of "black-face".

My all time favourite athlete is Muhammed Ali. My second favourite is Pinball Clemons, both of them because of their outstanding character. I have in fact gone to a party as Ali, not as a racist but as someone who I admire for giving up millions to protest against the Vietnam war.

Racist? Not a chance. And what Bozak did is not either.

I think it's a stretch to call it ill-advised and tasteless. Since when did Halloween get Costume Police? No one would get upset if Georges Laraque went out for Halloween as Stephen Harper so it's horsesh!t that Bozak caught any flak at all for this.
