We know Luongo is/was an Oilers fan growing up
- Richard Cloutier

Of course he was! Just like every other French-speaking kid who grew up playing goalie in Montreal during the Roy years.

I don't know where all this Loungo to Edmonton talk is even coming from?
-Dubnyk played well with the worst D in the league in front of him last year
-we just signed Dubnyk to an extension paying him starter money
-we have 2 good young goalies in Bunz and Roy tearing it up in the minors
-Loungo's contract is disgusting. We'd be stuck with his cap hit long after he retires
-Loungo chokes in the playoffs. We're looking to be a contender

I just don't see where he would fit in with the longterm or shorterm plans on this team. So suck it Vanvouver fans. You're stuck with him!

Wow- I just cant see Lu being put on waivers... It seems like such a slap in the face to a bona-fide star goalie... he is 33 right now not 43 like the dominator... I know his value is decreased by the term and dollars in this contract but he has at least 4 good years or more in him at #1 goalie... and anything thinking he does not make the oil better instantly is crazy... dubey is great at being inconsistent... the allowance of soft goals makes many like myself nervous...which is why I would welcome a starter like Lu

I think they're both incapable of being starters but, for the sake of argument, here you go.

Dubnyk .910 SV% 2.85 GAA 4 SO

Reimer .911 Sv% 2.83 GAA 6 SO

Career numbers for both. Dub-101 games, Reim-71 (thanks in large part to Brian Gionta running him over).

How about what have you done for me lately:

2011/2012 #'s

Reimer- 34 starts 14w 14l 3.10gaa 900sp

Dubnyk- 42 starts 20w 20l 267gaa 914sp

I'd say dubnyk's career is trending in a much better direction.

Still amazes me that people think this. Edmonton's defense last year was middle of the league. Their big issue was that they were peiced together with AHLers due to all the injuries.

Calgary is seen as having a great defense and goalie. They had 151 even strength goals against last year.

Edmonton is seen as having a horrible D and average goalie, yet they let in only 153 even strength goals against...

Strange.

Unfortunate to happen to anyone. Hopefully he beats it like most do and can continue on his hockey career.

Personally, I would chaulk Reimer's year last season to a concussion and a sophomore slump. Overall they are very similar. That was Reimer's second season, he's 2 years younger than Dubnyk so I wouldn't throw him under the bus just yet. If you're willing to ride out Dubnyk then Reimer would, in theory, be given the same opportunity.

On the hypothetical of Lu in the minors...
I believe if he was sent down to the minors and not claimed, if then traded he could be assigned to the NHL directly without having to re-enter for his new team. I'm not sure about this though.

- Morris

He would have to clear waivers unless it was a deal done in between the start of the playoffs or the start of the new year.

Someone in Edmonton said the oilers were going to aquire a WOW aquisition to the Oiler organization. When I heard that announcement I thought Gretzky but the media went wild speculating Luongo .

It was Bob Stauffer. He said a wow personel move and since then he has gone on to say that his remark doesn't necesarilly even mean a trade.

I wasn't throwing Reimer under the bus. You were the one that broke out the stats to try to say they were the same goalie.

You can use whatever excuse you want. The fact is that Reimer has regressed, while Duby has gotten better and more confident every year.

Not to mention Duby did this behind a weak defence that has been crippled with injuries the last few years. While Tor is supposedly one of the better (or at least above average) defences.

I'm not sayin Duby is the next Pekka Rinne or anything. Just that your comparison is weak, and inaccurate.

That is what I said .

My first thought is Gretzky joined management officially seeing he has been doing so much free PR

Someone else started the LU rumour.

Agreed. Cory Potter, Theo Peckham, Taylor Chorney, Colten Teubert, Alex Plante, and Bryan Rodney are not NHL calibre Dmen

I wouldn't call one bad season out of two total seasons regressing. My comparison is definitely not inaccurate. I used actual statistics that show a similar comparison in career statistics. I'm not defending Reimer, because I don't think he is a legit starter either, I'm just saying that it's not that out to lunch to compare them to each other. What people wanted Toronto's D to be and what they actually were are two different things. Just because Reimer plays for the Leafs doesn't mean you should vomit because your goalie got compared to him over career statistics.

So what you're saying is that this dynastic HHOF forward core sucks and the defense and goaltending saved the day?

I can see the product sucking and players mailing in efforts. But money is money, and both the players and the owners want as much as possible.
- Maxbone

This happens, I insta cancel my season tickets. The ONLY reason I havent yet is the interst we make for next years games. Anyone who thinks 82 is even remotely possible at this point lives in space.

Solid goaltender, horrible contract but if we got rid of one then I'd be okay with it.

I don't mind Horcoff at all, its just his contract. When it runs out i'd even consider resigning him for what hes actually worth, unless of course by then we have a better option for a 3rd or 4th center.
