More like the leafs moving to Niagara falls, and in that case I think Buffalo would take exception big time.

I don't know NYC very well, but from a map it really looks like the gm's of the rangers and Isles could almost stare at each other out their respective office windows.

TO give you an idea, its prob a 15-20 min subway ride from MSG to the Barclays arena.

I live on Long Island, have never once driven to a Ranger game in my life, but I'd probably estimate I have been to 400-500 Ranger games in my life by taking the LIRR.

Really no big deal.

The problem as a Long Islander is that Nassau County is going to hell. There is no reason this county shouldn't have a state of the art arena for everything, and now we'll never get it.

The LIRR takes you right into MSG.......its awesome. How anyone is complaining about a train ride to Barclays arena is beyond me. Its sooooooooooo much easier than driving. THE LIE is ALWAYS backed up during rush hour.

But, the Rangers already got a fee for the Isles being in their territory. They should get another b/c the Isles moved within the same territory they already paid to operate in?

Edit -- not to mention, the Rangers don't seem to care:

I understand the rangers already got compensation but there has to be some sort of limit to what the isles are allowed to do.
E.g. I don;t think the isles can build an arena right across the street from MSG.
There has to be some sort of line in the sand doesn't their?

It just surprises me that they we're allowed to do this without question.
I think you hit the nail on the head with the real answer: The rangers don't seem to care.

So to equate this to Toronto its about the equivalent of going from old Maple leaf gardens to the new leafs home at the ACC (if you include walking time).

This should get the Wolfpack howling again:

"I don't know how many years specifically [DiPietro] has . . . We felt that he was the franchise goalie and wanted to keep him here," Wang said. "It wasn't one of those fancy, funny deals with big money up front, signing bonus. He certainly took less than what he could have gotten, given his status, and we made a long-term commitment. We believe in him. He's truly an Islander.
"I can't say what's going to happen. We know, the healthy Ricky DiPietro, we know what he can do. We hope that's what we get going forward. You can't find a kid with better heart when it comes to being an Islander."

According to Mapquest, they are about 9 km away.

ACC and MLG are about 2.5 km away.

But that's not factoring in traffic.

Anyhoo, it's a moot point.

I wouldn't rule that out just yet. Stranger things have happened.

right...they dont seem to care....because CLEARLY it is within the isles rights (IE the arena is not crossing over that "line in the sand") to move to BK; otherwise if they were over that "line" the rangers would make a stink about it...

On the bolded point, I would think the line in the sand would be if the Isles tried to move into Manhattan. The Dolans went ballistic when the Jets and Mayor Bloomberg were kicking around the idea of the West Side Stadium. But they probably view Barclays as a similar deal to when the Mets' owners (pre-Madoff mess) floated the idea of bringing the Isles to Queens a couple of years ago. Just my guess, anyway.

This is the exact stuff i was saying about Wang and Snow last season. You cant keep promising playoffs and then finish in the bottom 5.

The good news is that with this Brooklyn deal the isles will now be able to attract top tier talent. That will put them over the hump.....

I'd agree. Brooklyn is way different than Manhattan. So i doubt they care. It's not a competiting venue for concerts and such

Troll-eytracks deserved this…
what're you....12?!?! How do you go from saying go the extra 25 miles to moving to Canada or Seattle? in the span of a few minutes? Haters are gonna hate, I get that, but a Sens fan talking smack?!?! Did you miss the school bus this morning?
- 1since40

Troll-ey, you should at least show a bit of respect for a storied franchise that just made a great move. How soon you forget 2002-03 when your organization could easily have been called a “garbage organization” when they filed for bankruptcy mid-season (unless 1since40 is correct and you were 2 at the time).

You’re criticizing an organization for players not wanting to play for their team??? Do these names mean anything…Heatley...Corvo?

Parenteau is overrated imo (time will tell) but the Islanders picked-up Eric Boulton, Brad Boyes, Matt Carkner, Colin McDonald, Lubomir Visnovsky.

And your off-season was what in comparison…stellar? The Sens parted ways with Kuba, Carkner, Foligno, Konopka, Butler, and Gilroy and only added Latendresse, Methot, and Lundin. Methot will fit well but this isn’t enough for you to criticize the Isles.

all it means is that he has 3 years of games that long islanders will be able to drive to and being that the nhl just canceled up until nov 30, that number just shrank

He's been traded to the Leafs for Komisarek.

Sorry to break it to you.
