"We said to them that we are prepared to meet if you want to discuss our offer or if you want to make a new offer. They have no inclination on doing either and so there really was no point in meeting," said Bettman.

The NHLPA made the last three offers. Just because the league took 10 minutes to turn them down doesn't mean they didn't happen. So why don't you sit there Gary and let the season piss away. That'll show everybody you're in charge. Good job.

I guess this is the type of weak sauce we have to deal with during a lockout. I guess the entertaining trolls are overseas too..

The salary roll back has me up in arms. The players are expected to give back money for a 2nd time in 7 years because the owners, who allowed these contracts be signed off on, want to change their terms after the fact once again? How many of those players would have signed their long big money deals if they knew they weren't getting the full amount? Some of these players may have opted to look elsewhere if the contracts weren't going to be honored as they thought they would.

The NHL seems like without a salary roll back included, any proposal by the NHLPA will not be good enough.

To be honest, they took a huge roll back at the start of the CBA and using escrow they've had their contract rolled back all but one season since.

So for 6 of the last 7 years the NHL owners have gotten a refund on their contracted dollars. No other league has ever gotten a refund on guaranteed contracts. EVER!!!

I don't get on much but last week I was pretty positive the NHL and NHL would come to an agreement. Even if they didn't agree on everything within the proposal, I felt there was no excuse to not have a season start by November. I was wrong and this really sucks they.they.have nothing scheduled to talk.

I pretty much knew that what happened last week wasn't going to lead to an agreement. But Hope is good. And there is still hope.

I am on neither side but have largely been more annoyed at the players because of their crying about money. Maybe it's because I am a simple guy, but if you make anywhere even close to 500,000 a year you shouldnt be whining about anything. When you have amazing benefits, and with some basic financial planning could plan to live very comfortably after retirement, you keep your mouth shut and stop trying to act like an average joe.

At the same time the league is starting to frustrate me. I am very much in favor of a 50/50 split, which in itself imo is very generous to the players. I dont care if they are in a certain industry, they have it damn good.

At no point should signed contracts be reduced. The owners can lower future contracts league wide in the future by just not offering such high deals.

In the end I have no sympathy for any of them. They all think they are bigger than the game, and have forgotten what its really about. Entitled, egotistical and spoiled overpaid idiots. Every one of them.

Edit: To think as a young kid I used to idolize these guys is sad. I will still be a fan, and enjoy the entertainment, but thats where it ends. I've got a little bit of hippie in me.

The players haven't whined about money. That a mis- characterization. Nor have they tried to act like average Joes. It's simply about keeping what is theirs. And that is a right that everyone is entitled to. Especially when the contracts were negotiated in good faith.

Just remember, it isn't really a 50/50 split. It's a 50/50 split of NET revenues, which means all the expenses are out of that before the split and the owners can cook the books before sharing.

You know the owners knew this was in the offing when they signed those deals. They signed them with no intention of honoring them. It would serve them right for this to lead to the KHL becoming the premier league in hockey and all the European leagues growing because of it.

I have a hard time with any of these 50/50 split things, or revenues or other nonsense. Not trying to offend Bo, but its all "economic" crap to me. The kind of crap that gets rich people richer and the average joe gets nothing.

At the end of the day the players will always have it damn good. No matter what the split. They will always make great money and they need to realise that. The players have to realise they have it good, better than 99% of the average people. The guy that will fix their gold toilet, the delivery boy for their pizzas and the nurse that will one day wipe their ass.

The owners need to realise they signed contracts that need to be upheld. Honor.

Say what you will but this is why I love Olympic hockey or the World Juniors. Its about playing for national pride and honor, above anything else.

The only thing taken out of the pie before the split, is player benefits. Expenses that the League incurs, are not taken out of it.
