That just sounds weird that the players are going to ask Fehr to meet with the NHL... - atlsabsfan
If that's the case and the owners know about this , then its pretty much game over for the players, they just threw their unity out the window , this is why I dont get this rumor. |

Nah...players are still trying to win the public perception battle. Unless they are willing to make an offer or force Fehr to make another one but based on the owners proposal...it's all media positioning. - Symba007
A few questions for the players:
How much media positioning do you need to make a mortgage payment?
If the public is on your side, will that help you pay for your daughter's university tuition?
Do grocery stores accept moral victories as payment? |

Some players will go, say they are united, tell the media, look, we're here, ready to make an honest deal with the NHL, we really want to play and are not the one pushing a lockout on the players and fans. It's all about putting pressure on the owners and try to get the media/fans on their side before more games are cancelled and this drags on much longer. |

Players are the victims like we are...don't forget. Not easy to accept the average salary go from 2.4M to 2.2M (12% rollback). I feel for these guys.

I sense sarcasm but the rollback is bullpoop. Owners should be men and honor the contracts they signed. |

After being forced at gun point by the agents.......all those 6 million rfa contracts that had no business being handed out is what hiked market value IMO. |

I don't think either side cares about the public right now. The gap between the players and owners has narrowed significantly and there is a deal to be had. My guess is that there are a lot of nervous layers who don't want a season lost over the last few crumbs.

What leverage do you think the agents had on the owners to force them to sign their RFAs? One offer sheet by the Flyers! |

i agree with the dude that said the u.s. doesnt give a crap. you dont hear about it on espn so there for you dont hear about it. the damage has been done. that 7 billion that they have grown by since the last lockout, well you can kiss that good bye. right when hockey was starting to get half way popular round here, they go and do this. dont nobody want to watch a bunch of whining beyatchiz. put that in your pipe.

The big issue I have with the rollbacks is that it doesn't fix the biggest issue. The few teams who generate most of the revenues will still make the salary cap go up quickly, the bottom feeders won't be able to keep up, we'll be in the same boat in the 5-6 years when the CBA expires. A system has to be put in place where the league grabs a pool of money for the bottom feeders and in order to convince the few teams who will chip in most of that money, the NHL has to not only lower the cap but also relocate the teams that are far from being profitable and have little to no chance of ever being. Players will give some money back if they see a system that insures the growth of the league and insures a certain form for revenue sharing that will allow most teams to keep up with the cap while breaking even. |

Who cares Ek!!!!
I live in the US and they could care a less about hockey....I really don't think they've noticed the games aren't on...
Cancel the season and hopefully that will take care of the teams that can't support themselves.... - tmlfan17
Precisely... Who (frank)in' cares if you live in the US?!?! |

The players will cave.. It's all a REALLY BAD soap opera that was scripted from the outset.
WORST POKER FACE.. EVER!! - rkirk77
Are Leaf fans happy about this lockout because it ends their streak of being the only NHL team to not make the playoffs since the last lockout - now all teams are back at the starting gate - we can't say that anymore? |

Just because it is not on ESPN does not mean people do not care. You walk around Buffalo and all that is talked about is the CBA garbage and how we miss our NHL. I also do not think the damage will be as bad as what your making it out to be. Diehards will return whether they say they will or not and anyone who is fairweather or feeling out the sport and took time to find a team they support, learn the rules etc. won't just vanish, not all of them anyway. Look at TV and movies in the last 5 years. Characters watching NHL games on the TV in the movies, whole movies about hockey , hockey being mentioned by main characters or meeting people at a hockey rink. While yes this was around for a while the amount of saturation the sport has gotten in the media just in the last 5 years is astounding if you think about it So while I understand the pessimistic side of things there is a difference between being pessimistic and being a complete downer just cause you can.

It's another PR thing... the NHLPA are probably ready to make a deal now and if Fehr has to end up looking like the bad guy so that the players look like rock stars, he doesn't care. This could be a positioning though that they are ready to make a deal. |
