Sorry, you are correct. I found the goalie coach:

Or is that the defence coach? They look alike.

Yes - big new consideration for the Canucks.

But how does this change anything for any team looking to acquire Luongo?

- Atomic Wedgie

Because that cap hit would no longer apply to their cap? If it goes back ot the Canucks, the team that acquires him is off the hook? A big con on trading for Luongo was, previously, there are several years at the end of that contract that the team could end up with a big cap hit and no goalie....

Wait a second, you're right. I get what you're saying now.... The risk to the team acquiring him, previously, was that he actually plays out that contract, not that he retires. He would have been off the books, previously, if he retires.

People are making the assumption that if he retires, the new team gets that hit, instead of the old one. The difference between before and now is not that the Canucks get the cap hit, instead of the Leafs, it's that the Canucks get the cap hit, instead of no one getting the cap hit.

I see what you're saying now.

In fact, I'd say the only thing it does is give Vancouver less incentive to trade him, and instead, trade Schneider. If either.

The issue I can see developing around this is players don't retire, they just go on long-term IR for the rest of their contract. Kinda like Pronger and Savard are right now.

Everyone is pretty sure they are done, but if they retire their teams have the cap hit. If they are on IR then the cap hit comes off.
I see what you're saying now.

But if Luongo retires prior to his contract being up, his cap-hit disappears. He signed the deal before his 35th birthday. The only contracts where the cap-hit remains after retirement are the 35+ contracts (ie. Pronger).

The new rule under the new CBA being discussed doesn't care whether it's signed under 35 or over 35.

I understand that, but the question asked was: how does this effect teams trading for Luongo? It doesn't. If the current rule applies, his cap-hit is off the books for them when he retires. If the proposed rule applies, his cap-hit goes to the Canucks. The only thing the new rule does is make the Canucks a little less anxious to deal him.

This could result in some wild, wacky situations.

Wacky scenario:

Lou traded to Leafs.

After 5 years, he is pooping the bed.

Leafs fans will want him to retire - no cap hit, no more salary.

Vancouver will be phoning him, begging him to fake concussion symptoms, so he can go on LTIR, not counting against Vancouver cap.

Hilarity ensues.

Not getting a first.

And when you typed Frattin, I'm sure you meant Ashton.

Bozak? He's all yours.

Want Steckel too?

But in all serious, any chance you'd want Franson? Good BC boy, Really good hard shot from the point - all sorts of positives if you ask delusional Leafs fans.

Actually, I think Franson would be a good addition. Not sure why he didn't prosper in Toronto as he was great in junior and in Nashville....

Until he is actually the property of the Vancouver Canucks, I'm going to have to ask you to refrain from making crazy statements that completely over-rate his accomplishments. That's still the job of Leafs Nation.

He was 7th in TOI/G amongst defencemen in Nashville.

So yeah, doesn't really scream "great."

You'd probably just deal Colborne immediately - you wouldn't want him blocking the development of the centre you draft with the Leafs' first pick in the draft.

Great is relative....his numbers in Nashville are based on the fact that he was a 20 year old rookie. They dont represent the whole picture. He held his own and was not a reliability. Unfortunately, he got stuck on a Toronto team that basically stunk in all aspects of the game....

I cant help but think if this trade happens Kadri would be coming our way. Leafs organization seems to be fed up with him.

I don't want him . Classless puke and my opinion wouldn't change if he was here. I'm personally embarrassed and disgusted that he's Canadian
