I think it's a pretty safe bet that there are at least four teams with notable interest in Luongo is false.

that, and "playing for a winner", which you've just commented on.....

- prock

not true.

it depends on how the word "interest" is defined.

i am sure there a number of teams who feel luongo would be an upgrade over their current situation... therefore the word "interest" is applicable.

then the filtering process begins.. contract length, interest wanes, asking price, interest wanes, NTC, interest filtered...

and so on and so on

You realize if Lapierre was your teammate you'd be in the NHL...

Oh OK, here I was under the impression that it's a widely accepted fact that the hockey media in Toronto and Montreal was significantly more intense and critical than any other NHL market. I guess I was wrong - thanks for setting the record straight.
- 1979AD

I live in Vancouver but spent most of my life in the GTA, I can say that the media is fair more intense in Vancouver than Toronto when it comes the the home team. If Luongo gets a new hair cut it makes the front cover of The Province. In Toronto you still have the Raptors and Blue Jays, but Vancouver doesn't have a NBA or MLB teams so all the attention is on the NHL. From an overall NHL media perspective there's definitely more coverage in Toronto, but if we're talking just about the home team then it's Vancouver.

What an absolutely horrible article. I knew I'd regret reading it.

You think you would get Lupul in return? Really?

And you think he'd rather sit on the bench on a winner, rather than actually play somewhere else? Yes, players want to win, but they also want to contribute to that winning team. These guys are competitors and want to PLAY. If Schneider is going to get the lions share of the games, you can bet your ass that Lu would want to go and PLAY somewhere else, especially since it's most likely that Lu would ride the pine for the playoffs.

- Paytheplayer

Why would the Canucks want Lupul? He's atrocious defensively and he's a complete flake. Gillis builds with character. It'd have to be Lupul ++ but I guess leave it to a Leafs fan to asses talent

What are you talking about? If the Leafs (or any team, for that matter) would be able to trade for Luongo, without the worry of a crippling contract for several years while Luongo is on a beach enjoying his millions, they’d be willing to give up more for him, obviously.
- prock

Luongo signed his deal before the age of 35, so the Burkie Clause wouldn't make a difference.

You are still taking the chance that he won't retire before the last 3 years of his contract are up.

The only difference is without a Burkie Clause, he retires and nobody worries about it.

With a Burkie Clause, he retires and the Canucks are screwed for the remainder of the contract.

No difference to the Leafs.

One final thought: the idea was always that if Luongo was pooping the bed in the later years, you could just ship him off to the AHL - eating salary wouldn't be a big deal, as it is so reduced in the final years of the contract. That's no longer a viable option, as he would still count against the cap.

Maybe that's what we should have been focusing on - that reduces Luongo's value more than any Burkie Clause.

how was it a troll blog? everything I pointed out was fact.

-The Leafs haven't been much better than the Blue Jackets over the past 5 years.
-The leafs don't have a goalie coach and the Blue Jackets have one that Lu likes a lot.
-Lupul should get traded if the leafs can't re-sign him and there is a good chance of that happening.
-Barb Underhill is a Leafs coach
- Vancouver has no use for the Leafs players that the Toronto Media seem to think Vancouver will be taking.

- IanEsplen

the leafs dont have a goalie coach?

wow.. someone better tell Rick St Croix he isnt real.

Didn't Francois Allaire leave this past off-season?

I did not see a replacement on the Leafs site.

I think you might be mixing rules. I don’t recall any of that over 35 stuff being mentioned in the new CBA thing about cap hits remaining with the original team upon a trade.

Sorry, you are correct. I found the goalie coach:

Or is that the defence coach? They look alike.

That's not true at all, there is no CBA, only proposals at this point.

However there is this thing out west, it's called self-respect.

Luongo I think, has enough of it to not play for the leafs
