Read and learn, faceboy. The owners of the weak franchises don't mind the lockout because they don't have to pay anyone. They MAKE money by not playing as they still get paid the tv contract money from NBC. - triggermartin
I don't think that's true. McLean had the owner write a 20mil cheque during 2004-2005. |

You have JVR Kadri Gardiner Franson Frattin Biggs . How many more good young players do you need?
Look at the oilers they have tanked the last 5 years and still are 5 years away from making some noise.
You need experience to accompany the youth . - VANTEL

Eberle wasn't 18 though.
Still the point remains though I guess, I'm just nitpicking useless details. Edmonton has quite a few top end prospects. Toronto has one with Rielly (hopefully). That's about it. - daeth
Edmonton has sucked major nards for along time as well though, and the Leafs were only slightly older on average last year. With a cap, the problem for the oil will be keeping these guys. History implies that 1 or more won't be there past their second deal, maybe even after their first. When Nail is restricted, if he lives up to potential, there will already be 3 or 4 guys rocking 5 million plus per year. Edmonton needs to balance it out between d and forward to ultimately have success |

I think they can keep them fairly easily, but you're right about balancing out the rest of their roster. That is their challenge. |

History implies they'll keep the core and build around them.
Anywho... Oilers non existent cap problems aren't of much concern right now.

I just really, really hope that we don't trade Carton Ashton for Luongo.
He's going to be a superstar.
He looked pretty darned good in a Leafs uniform last year - I know his point totals were a little low, but he only played 15 games.
He's one to hold onto.
Don't let Scooby or LeftCoaster or VanTel know about him - I'd hate for them to figure out he's the real guy they want in this trade.

People up here complain about it all the time, now shultz has major pressure on him because the D is old when it's good, and inexperienced and physically weak when it's bad. In 15 more years Horcoff comes off the books. |

I guess, but the are very forward heavy and have some bad deals still needing to be relieved from. Obviously they should be awesome soon, but they do have issues like any team finishing that low in the standings. Thesae kids are good, but this ain't gretzky and messier. |

Who's furious over that? That is a low risk high reward deal... And they'll only have to pay him 1 year at less than 5 once this fiasco is over with.
