Reimer + Bozak/Colborne ?
- The Shrike

I think it's just Reimer and Colborne.

Gillis just wants a 3 rd line center and a back up goalie .

Burke doesn't like Russians. Burke says he would have taken the Canadian player first overall. It's not a hard line to follow, unless you're the kind of guy who thinks you should take a 3rd liner in the top-10.

And he would have been a genius for it.

Just like Washington was genius in taking Cam Barker instead of Ovechkin.

Genius!

Question for all the Leaf fans.......

If Markham does indeed get a team, would you switch your allegiance to them or do you just plain and simple bleed blue and white?

I live close to Markham, but because I've rooted for the Leafs for 40 years, I could never switch.

- faceto27

If Hamilton couldn't get a team I don't see how Markham will. The Leafs won't allow either.

Unless one of Rogers or Bell accepts being bought out by the other, in exchange for approval to buy the Markham team/expansion franchise.

If the NHL wants teams there, resistance is futile for the Leafs.

Has it ever come out that Toronto and Buffalo have stated that nobody can put a team there? I don't know if I've heard it as fact to be honest.

Why Markham has a better chance for a team, then Hamilton, is due to location. If a team where to go to Hamilton, it would have to pay compensation to Toronto and Buffalo. If a team goes to Markham, it only has to pay the Leafs.

The league would look at it as a team in Hamilton stealing fans from the Sabres market. Toronto can sustain a competitor, where Buffalo cannot. Hence the prospect of a team in Markham.

If you go into the Sabres thread you'll find out that it's not a lot of people from Canada go to Sabres games. Also that Pegula gives out golden sticks to every 3rd fan to enter the arena. Sadly they are only 14 kt and not pure.

So would he have taken Rielly with the 1st overall pick, or gone with Ryan Murray, who was rated higher?
- LeftCoaster

I would have taken Galy, as he matches the Leafs' needs the most, and then Yakupov, because personally, I don't give a poop where the guy's from, so long as he shows up and plays hard... and I personally like the cockiness.

I don't know if I would have taken Murray, because I like the drafting philosophy of going after a guy who's the absolute best in something, and filling in the holes that pop up later. Rielly is the best offensive d-man in the draft, while Murray is the jack of all trades. Good at everything he does, but not the best at any of them. Doesn't mean Murray won't be the better player, very well could be, and obviously, scouts who know more than me think he will be, but I think if he lives up to potential, Rielly could be a bigger game-breaker.

I'll be honest; the Rielly pick did confuse me, as Burke's steered clear of other injured guys in the past(Kadri over Cowen). At that pick, I personally would have gone with Grigorenko, because at that spot he had the highest offensive potential, and is a big center... but again, Burke&Russians don't get along.

9 games in, and Yakupov's a star while Rielly is a bust. Yup, not too early to call that, just to early to like the pick.

11 games 23 points

keeping in mind, it is the Q.

DiDomenico made that league his female dog, and now he's playing in Italy.

And he wasn't a 25 year old like Grigorenko

Rielly is a great pick , but Burkie didn't need to add pressure to the kid by saying he would have taken him first overall. Just that one sentence will put all kinds of pressure on the kid as the rest of the league is now watching for his mistakes .

The point however articulated remains, having somebody not willing to pick certain players based on some sort of hidden criteria isn't good.

Whether it is or isn't, the mocking has to do with Burke being disingenuous... saying whatever he can to make himself look better. And that's not the case here.

Depend's on the player's personality. Some guys like the attention, and like to hear how they're the best.

Burke's a lawyer... he knows the power of words. He never proclaimed Kadri as the guy he would have taken 1st overall... or any of his other picks for that matter. It's not like he runs around saying this about everybody.

That league can produce some good players, no doubt. But the disparity between the high talent guys and low talent guys is so huge that certain guys can dominate without having any of the skill to do it at higher levels.

Grigorenko looks like a guy who can do pretty well at higher levels, but to the degree that his stats in the Q show.
