Leafs can score goals. Lu will keep enough out (reg season anyways) to make the difference. IMO. |

i really dont think the leafs will be scoring as much this season.
wilson had them playing a wide open full offense attack.. which left the goalies hung out to dry more often than not.
carlyle on the other hand likes to stick to a strong aggressive D first, patience, and waiting for the opposition to make a mistake and then exploit it.
this is why i think its too early to give up on reimer/scrivens.. when there is a proper defense system in place their stats are bound to be better.
brodeur in his prime would of had poopty numbers playing behind that system wilson was implementing.
now, dont get me wrong.. if Lu was only signed for a couple years I wouldnt be against it at all.. but that contract just isnt worth taking on for what he brings to the table imo. |

Good point regarding Randys defensive system. I still think we need Lu now tho. If the buds can play a proper hard D game, and Lu plays lights out (most nights), we have the speed and ability to outscore most teams.
Contract is another issue all together obviously.. Although not attractive, if he can help and mentor Reimer/Scrivens over the next few seasons, then provide some backup throughout the transition, it doesn't seem quite as bad. |

at this point man, i could care less. At least with our defense lacking some nights, we can rely on a proper goaltender to bail us out.
EDIT: if we get him for a good deal, im all for it. And on the plus side, having a solid goaltender in net, will attract the big names in the summer like perry or getz if they are NOT resigned. Or other players. Just saying! We have to make our team more enticing. Players would come and be assured with a proper goaltender in net. Not reimer |

Actually, the NHL owners get their way on that issue, the team that signed Luongo will get stuck with the full cap hit should he retire as a Leaf. |

You'd get at least 4 years of good goaltending in the process. It's not negligible. |

If there is another benefit of a lockout for the Leafs, it's that they can stay the hell away from Luongo.
If a lockout means a great draft pick without having to watch the horror that is the Leafs and not acquiring Luongo, keep this lockout going strong. Double lock the doors. Get security guards for the locked doors. Set land mines around the door. |

As much fun as being an 8th place, 1st round exit team sounds, I think continuing the rebuild is the logical solution.
That being said, chalk up Luongo as the Leafs starter. |

The way I see it, being a bottom feeding team for years is the best way to piss off the good players you currently have and it also limits the options in terms of adding veterans and "the missing piece" come July 1st.
As good as it sounds on paper, finishing at the bottom really isn't the best way to rebuild imho. |

If the lockout is for the whole season, either way we get a good first pick. With then the trade for luongo going through. with then leading to free agency where will we will have some money to spend with many contracts up, where big named players will be more enticed to come here because we have luongo, not because of reimer. |

Piss off good players? Screw 'em. Trade them. Rebuild. Rebuild hard.
Hall, Hopkins and Yakupov. Complaints? None.
MacKinnon, Ekblad and McDavid. Complaints? None. |

We most likely wont be getting mackinnon because the draft rigs it against us but a top 5 pick is still always good for me |

The Oilers still have a looooooong way to go before they are at the top of the league.
That being said, they could use Luongo. |

Yes, the mass exodus to Toronto because they have Luongo.
