Hmmmmmmmmmm........... if they cancelled the entire year, then there would be a boat load of free agents for the next year. And the Leafs will have rid themselves of a bunch of lousy player/contracts.

Maybe not such a bad idea this lockout poop.

Oilers haven't screwed anything up yet. They aren't jumping at huge contracts for vets, resigned a couple of their own.. Smyth and Hemmer, but short term.

Year off is perfect for them actually, let them play together in the AHL and develop more chemistry together.

Lowe was the one who signed the albatross Horcoff. Hemsky will now take ice from a young guy IMO was a pointless signing. Lowe also gave Pronger away for way too little. Then they let Roloson go, when he clearly had a couple very good years left. I'm sorry but this management team is not without faults. Again, positivity for it's own sake makes no sense to me. Logically they have a bright future, but fairly they are being run by the same ding dongs that led them to last place for the last few years. It's just simple logic. Again, they should be better every year, but these guys could very easily pooch it, they have many years before. It's the same in TO. BB has some positive and negative points in the past, but he's made major boners. I've got optimism about some of the young guys and such, but he has made mistakes just like in E-town, so he may just totally pooch it. It's just reality. There are teams that stink for decades, it happens. There are certain teams that are well run, and once they became competitive they retained that, some for 15 plus years now. I'm not going to get my hopes up just yet, I wanna see what happens first.

Oh crap........... that also would mean that Bettman gets to rig the draft for MacKinnon like he did with Crosby.

The Leafs have already worked it out - it's the price for allowing a team in Markham.

you know something... why the hell doesn't the NHL and NHLPA just f'n well hire an independent arbitrator?

everyone opens their books.. gets all the hidden BS out into the open.. run it through the ringer.. clean up this labour mess and let a 3rd party, one with no association to either the NHL or the NHLPA, decide on what is fair?

there must be some really dirty poop hidden away on both sides since neither of them want that.

Ya. Thank god Eberle came out of it. I will say one thing. Watching these young guys live is pretty awesome. If they pick up a quality enforcer (who can play a regular shift effectively) that would go along way. Eager's just getting too old. Those kids are gonna be unreal in a couple years, so they better not frig it up. Doobers looks like he's going to be descent too so they have a lot of good things going. I guess I look at championship teams as the comparison and LA has zero bad contracts. Every guy gets paid rightly or less, and they have a balanced lineup. When we compare our teams to the champs is when realization sets in. Unfortunately in a cap world to win you really can't have any bad signings. In fact all the best teams carry little to no over paid guys.

The NHL is afraid another lawsuit will come when it is discovered they pilfered even more money from the players is my guess.

i know that.

but its such an obvious solution

so why isnt the media, social and professional.. screaming for this?

expose it.. dont just back down when bettman says they "prefer" not to do it that way.

Can you imagine how well the negotiation would go to decide who the arbitrator would be?

Jacobs, the board chairman who is believed the league’s most extreme hardliner, did provide moments of the most levity in the meeting even if unintentionally so, when, according to one player, the Boston owner announced that Bettman has the most difficult job imaginable.

“Gary has the hardest job because he represents both the players and the owners,” Jacobs is reported to have said.

That, according to our mole, prompted Fehr to ask, “Does that mean we can fire him?”

it would be better just to deal with it out in the open.. pay out what they owe and move on.

i seriously think that all this back room dealing and sheisty crap on the league's part has wound itself into a knotted ball so tight that its become ineffective.

It would probably just take months to convince them that Bill Daly and Steve Fehr are not legitimate candidates for the job.
