so Fehr recomended the players not to take this deal yesterday

nick kypreos just tweeted that

- thegodfather

hahahahah.. Kypreos.. Terrible analyst and even worse reporter. How that guy has a job....

Thanks, Nick. Way to tell us what we already know! Obviously, they aren't going to accept that offer. It's a 'starting point'. A starting point that they can now negotiate back and forth for the next week.

Not sure what you're trying to say here. You still don't think teams that make the most money don't have an advantage?

Do you see 'the bottom 8' ever spending to the cap? You really think Phoenix, Florida, Carolina, Nashville, Winnipeg, NYI, etc are ever going to be cap teams?

Conversely, do you ever see the 'top 8', unless they are 'rebuilding' NOT spending to the cap?

There is still a clear advantage to the teams with bigger markets/richer owners, and there always will be.

The point of a cap is to make sure it doesn't become like baseball where you have an all star team playing a triple A team. Even if you're a fan of the all star team, surely it's gotta get old, beating down teams that have no business even being in the league.

At 63.3 million payroll, the Jets are a cap team...

I'm not sure why this has devolved into some argument about expansion teams and the Big Market vs. Small Market whine fest. I just want to see some hockey. What I will say about the Big Market complaints is that it is just like income tax - progressive. If you want teams to play against you need the "small" market teams to exist. I hate that the league basically forced the deal in Pheonix though, there are much better places for a franchise (and they aren't only in Canada).

I hope that the PA will negotiate but be reasonable about it. I think that the league will accept some modifications to their proposal. I think the players should ask for a 1-year step down to 50% share. Yr 1 54%, Yr 2 and on 50%; maybe something along those lines. That way contracts can be honored with less going to escrow and the Cap wont suddenly drop 15 million dollars. Probably a change to max contract length as well.

What deal are you talking about?

The deal to move them there? The league didn't force them to do it - it was the only place that wanted them.

The deal to keep them there? Done to ensure that they didn't move to Hamilton, pissing off the Sabres and Leafs. It would have been a huge, ugly legal battle - it was smart for the NHL to avoid it.

You aren't paying for poorly managed teams!!

I have this argument with Habs and Leaf fans all the time.

Ticket prices in Philly are the way they are becuase of supply and demand. You pay what you do cause the owners know that's what they can get for a ticket.

The measley amount of reveue sharing that happens in the NHL does not drive ticket prices!

Do you really think the ticket price in Philly would go down if there was no revenue sharing? God no! It would just mean that the owner would get more in profit. Since when does any fan give a crap about how much the owner is profitting? Are you related to him? Friends with him? Does he take you out for dinner?

As long as your team is stable and healthy, that's all you should care about.

- Charliebox

Exactly its not the size of the City its the Demand. I would rather have my money go to my team so that my team can compete....i could care less about the bottom dwellers of this league. Look @ NJ .... Super competitive great history and their fanbase is weaker than my jeep patriot. ... i feel for their die hards i do ....

That is nice and all that they are trying to get a 6 year deal done but its all bs. In 6 years from now they are going to be right where they are today in another lockout just like they were in 05. I love the nhl and always have but if they continue to bone the fans i will stick to the nfl.

say hello to receiving a mediocre product on the ice and paying higher ticket prices than anyone else. This CBA will destroy the top 8 and in a sense is not fair. If they want all teams to be on equal footing than they should make ticket prices across the league the same. I pay more money to go see a better product from my club out there.....Not to feed Bettmans bastards. League parity can kiss my ass. . If it weren for the top 8 the bottom 8 would cease to exist.
- Philly1980

Philly's not in the top 8.

Its all the canadian teams (minus winnepeg and ottawa), NYR, chicago and pitt

I call BS. I was waiting for you to say that either Couturier, Linseman, Propp and Lindros are your favorite players, but instead you decided to hide behind your children... I'd expect nothing more.

It widely known what "1488" means and it just so happens to appear in your user name.

Yay.. someone else gets it. I've become more and more of an NHL fan as parity has come to this league.. Even though it meant a team like chicago rising from the dump, and most especially because it has seen Detroit dethroned. The NHL is the ONLY league with this level of parity, and that is what makes it the greatest league in the world.

and it is a majore reason the league has had phenomenal growth during the last 7 years.

I was just thinking this. Now that the NHL gave an inch Fehr is going to try and take a mile, thinking the NHL is weak for compromising.
- onac22

I mentioned this yesterday.

I think it will be a mistake.

In fact, I think the NHL only gave as much as they did... 50/50, no rollbacks, 50million more in revenue sharing, so that they could appear to be giving in (and actually giving in) on all the major issues that the average fan even understands or knows about.

I think the owners wanted PR to shift, so that if they cancel, they will have something concrete and solid to show what the players gave up.

By the way how the F does the NHLPA think they deserve more % than the other major leagues? That is mind-boggling.

There may be things that the owners will *win* on, but they are being reasonable on the key issues I think. All the NHL has to do now is stick to something close to this offer... if the players won't accept, I think there will a TON of support stripped away from the NHLPA, and they DO care.

Why else would Bettman release the details of the offer? He is preparing his/the owner's public position for armageddon.

It is up to Fehr now to not F this up.

'Widely known' is stretching the truth quite a bit.
