The NHL's offer, I'm sure there will be a few issues from the NHLPA. Hopefully it's the framework of a deal though.

Perhaps we should see the deal completed & ratified first.

If it's a five year deal I'd want 54 and 52 in the first two. That's enough to keep escrow from chomping away at current contracts until they get to 50. No way I agree to 4 year entry level contracts or AHL contracts counting against the cap. I also want the 27 and 7 UFA status intact. I give on the term limits on contracts.

We can talk further... What have you got?

Why? It's not like this is the end of hockey as we know it. I block out thinking about the lockout all the time and focus on where the flyers could improve the line up Carle probably would have looked really good next to Luke Schenn.

Not saying you shouldn't just suggesting we know the deal is done first, the lineups talked about before the lockout probably won't change outside the injury to Jake.

Yeah, agree, but no one wants to feel manipulated and even though it happens every hour of every day when someone is snagged prepping a way to garner influence without using facts but slogans researched and paid for there's going to be negative blow back if only in perception.

I'm sure there were some curse words and banged fists when that hit. In my eyes it makes them look cheesy and not in a delicious orange finger kinda way.

I hear you, sir. I'm just trying not to be the boy who cried wolf when it comes to outrage at the institution. It's just marketing research, I don't love it but I think the outrage at it is almost entirely spin, nothing more than a distraction from the negotiation.

Not to mention said deal may impact the eventual line up decisions. But he's right, there's not much to talk about lately, today's big offer being the exception.

One thing's certain: Holmgren is looking for a defenseman.

I think we are missing what has made the flyers so poppular in the past. Sexy names. Giroux is our star and then we have a few mid level stars like Briere, Hartnell, Simmonds and the Schenn brothers. I think Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier will be big names but not yet. I think Giroux needs someone close to his level at wing to have an impressive top line. It has been decades since we've had this issue. Hartnell is clumsy and Voracek lacks finish.

A distraction caused by the NHL who should be worrying about getting their product on the ice and not winning the popularity contest. They want to be popular get Giroux off of my laptop screen in a Polar Bear Jersey and get him on my big screen in Orange and Black where he belongs.

Does doing market research really delay them from getting negotiations done at all, though? It's not like it's Gary Bettman out there passing out these polls, right?

Hush you... Hartnell's a perfect fit on any scoring line in the NHL. He has hands like butter, he's strong in front and along the boards and he's matured to the point where he doesn't take stupid penalties without taking someone with him.

We could use a pure goal scorer on that line. Hopefully that will be schenn who looked the part in junior.

They sent NHL management to the test group to observe and someone had to take the time to deal with the research company to figure out the five page questionaire and set the priorities of the group discussion. That's wasted assets to unnecessarily try to manipulate public opinion. Since the head of the company handled the test group personally I'll assume Daly or Bettman spent time in communications with him.

In the process of a season all this is part of business to make sure you're serving and appealing to your clientele. In this case it's to paint the players, the product, in a bad light to get an upper hand in CBA negotiations and it's irksome. No more, no less.

I didn't know they had NHL management there conducting it. Otherwise, I just wouldn't think the assets used to conduct market research are the same as those who perform administrative services or would be involved in negotiation.

I understand why something that when this goes public it's going to be seen in a bad light. That's the way media and the public work. I just think being influenced by this 'incident' is getting caught up in hype, 'mountains out of molehills' as it were. At worst, I'm as offended by this as I was by that stupid 'we just want to play' video the NHLPA released.

Obviously I can't answer this question. I'm just hoping our guys step up or a player who is more Giroux's speed lands right into our big lucky laps.

I still think the focus is on an impact defenseman, not a forward.

Maybe those owners are in the wrong business. The guy in Nashville was crying poor in the last CBA so what did he do? He sold his share in the team and bought the Wild and signed two players this off season to 100+ million contracts. Oh woe is the owners lot in life.

Those blue collar raised young men should stop taking advantage of the poor owners and let them keep their hard earned money. They are taking all the risks after all, ask Lindros, Pronger, Primeau, Laperriere, etc.

- mayorofangrytown

The owners are risking their own capital don't forget about that.
