Fans will suffer. Unlike his dealings with MLB, he doesnt have the leverage in this situation. Owners arent going to break far off of their present deal. It is close to their best deal. Fehr has no skin in the game to get the games played. He doesnt care if they play or not.

There is a long shot that Bettman could look like sympathetic character if Fehr tries to use his similar MLB tactics. Who would have ever thought that?

Curious as to the leverage that the MLB players had vs NHL players ?

It was a strike, not a lockout. Baseball cared about getting game back playing. NHL owners have already shown they will tank a year.

NHL players are under a lot more pressure for paychecks than MLB players were/are. They are our only hope since, in the end, Fehr is just an acting agent of the players association.

Shero should be applauded for not succumbing to those contracts that had circumvention qualities or were extremely long in term.

The new proposed deal is not going to be kind to a team like the Flyers:

So if Richards and Carter were forced to retire the Flyers would have 15 mill (with Pronger) counting against their cap without a single player on the roster.

And you wonder why Snider was one of the owners that was holding things up haha. Can't blame him after seeing that.

Even the richest men don't like handing out money for nothing.

Exactly, it was a strike. That douche Fehr had them walk right before the playoffs if I remember correctly (and you wonder why the owners refused Fehr's desire to let the season start while there supposedly negotiating.)

One big difference is most MLB teams were making money. It's been reported something like 18 NHL teams lost money last year, furthermore, I think it only takes like 9 teams to veto a deal. Maybe someone else knows the exact number but I think it's single digits. Not going to be hard to find 9 "money losing" owners who choose to hold out for a deal that let's them make money.

G is great and all, but enough about the hit. It wasn't that big a deal. If G didn't score, no one would talk about it.

Any over/under predictions from my Steel Town friends on the number of fights first Flyers/Pens game. I'm going with 3.

Cheers!

That's as good as an interview gets with a guy who is usually so measured with his responses.

Thank you for that. That is an an incredibly well done interview on both sides. Sid has been through a lot of challenges and yet remains down to earth, realistic and yet optimistic. We are extremely fortunate to have him representing the Pittsburgh Penguins. Long live Sid!
