Kind of sucks when you have to do that, in order to have any chance at all, doesn’t it?

you seem to have a real hatred for the Rangers and none for the Flyers, and that is pretty funny.

the Rangers have never cried poverty.

The Minnesota owner has.

Did you think that the Minnesota owner avoids eye contact with everyone out of embarrassment in the owner's meetings?

What are they supposed to do? Let the other teams buy up all of their players, and sit in the basement forever? Ironically, wasn’t it you that started by talking about the cap not allowing teams to sign their own players? Should I have understood that to mean that you’re the Rangers can’t sign all the other team’s players? If anything, it’s allowing more teams to keep their own players, not inhibiting them.

Umm, no. I don’t hate the Rangers at all. Funny enough, the Flyers are quite possibly my most hated team. The whole Broadstreet bully crap? I don’t understand how anyone can glamourize a team of thugs like that. It’s so typical of the organization, and the trash that is the city of Philly though. Bobby Clarke is a black mark on the game. He’s absolute trash POS.

I don’t hate the Rangers for trying to buy themselves a cup, in years past. That’s just the way the economics of the game was. I just feel the game is better, and the league for that matter, with a salary cap.

The seriousness of the situation was amped up today when Mrs. NHLPlayer saw there was no direct deposit into her bank account.

the Rangers haven't really had any situation where they signed a Nashville player but the Flyers just signed your best player to the most ridiculous contract in NHL history, yet you roll off Ranger salaries of the past like your have them printed out in front of you

So let me get this straight.

According to the Rangers fan, because the Wild signed horrible deals, then cried poor, it means that no teams are poor and that the % the players are getting should remain the same?

C'mon.

There are 30 teams in the league for god sakes. Pretty much every off season, one or two teams are going to do something stupid. It happens in every sports league.

With that being said, the majority of teams haven't signed stupid or cap circumventing deals since the last lockout.

What about those franchises? Shouldn't the good of the majority be considered here?

There is no doubt the league is better with a cap and to suggest otherwise is either lunacy or homer love for a big market team. The cap leads to parity and rewards the teams that exercise good management of players and personel decisions.

nope, the Minnesota Wild cried poor FIRST then signed those two players to those ridiculous cap circumventing contracts and then gave themselves the second highest cap payroll in the NHL, get the order straight.

That’s nice. My hatred for the Flyers has nothing to do with them trying to sign players. Offering players contracts, regardless from team they’re from, in UFA, is a fact of life. I don’t hate the Rangers for offering big contracts (don’t hate them at all) either. I don’t hate any team for that. That’s just the business of the game. My hatred for Philly is tied to their history, the type of trash they have running their organization, the team of thugs that they like to continually put on the ice, and the crappy city and fans they represent.

well, you brought up Rozsival, Drury, Holik twice, Redden. The Yankee payroll. I think you hate NY teams spending money more than you are backtracking from now.

Who cares!?!?!

That's not the point. The order of what happened doesn't matter.

It's ONE team crying poor after signing a terrible deal.

Have you seen Phoenix sign a deal like that? Florida? Anaheim? Carolina (Staal's wasn't the best, but manageable)? Winnipeg/Atlanta?

Those are the teams that are crying poor and ARE poor.

Then there are about 10-12 other teams who are losing money or breaking even who've never signed deals like that.

Outside Minny, it's the same damn teams signing these ridiculous deals that were doing it BEFORE the cap!

Where in my point did I say anything regarding circumventing the cap? But since you asked I will say yes it does (legally under the old CBA also but still circumvents the cap). But I will also be quick to point out that the contract was signed under a different ownership group and if I had to place bets the current group would love to not have that contract on the books, circumvention or not.

I don't know. The current ownership group signed Matt Carle to a 6 year 33 million dollar deal, at least it was all the same money every year though.

I name those Rangers contracts because they’re the kind of contracts that create the need for a salary cap. Having one or two teams that have double or triple the payroll of every other team ruins it for many. The Yankees win their division nearly every year (13 out of the last 17 years or something like that). I guess if you’re a Yankees fan, that’s great, but it’s kind of boring knowing that the entire regular season is basically a formality for the other four teams in the division. What’s the point? It’s a joke. Do I blame the Yankees for that? No, not really. It just highlights the need for change. I’m telling you the truth when I say I don’t hate the Rangers. I just don’t want the NHL to turn into that. It was getting fairly close to that, before the lockout, and I think the league is more entertaining now. If you look at the 10 teams before the lockout to win the cup, IIRC, I think only the Lightning were outside the top 5 or 6 in payroll in the year they won the cup. I just find it more entertaining this way.

listen, if Carolina was actually "poor" I doubt they would have given Jeff Skinner a six-year, $34.35 million deal when he wasn't remotely close to being a free agent.

but, you do acknowledge when you go to capgeek and see the list of payrolls, the Rangers are in the middle of the pack and not near the top, correct?
