Ya, what is with all the hate?

An article of whether TO is a hockey or Leaf town just becomes a chance for other people to bash leafs fans... I love how the say leafs fans are the ones who are ignorant...!

I think the reason that people don't support the Marlies, etc, is simply because we are busy. Everyones kids play hockey and as a parent I would rather take my boy to play hockey and watch him have fun then drive 1 hr to a marlies game to pay $10 for a drink...

Saturday nights the priority is definately a Leafs game, but other then that family life comes first...

Part of the problem with the Marlies, at least until recently, is that its too expensive when you factor the price of beer/food/parking etc but also that there havent been many players on the team worthy of going out to watch.

The true test will come next week when the AHL season begins. I plan on watching the games and attending a couple. Hopefully the place is packed and rocking, especially now that we have a team worth going out to see.

As far as teams like Brampton and Mississauga....they need to do more to make the city more aware of them and at least advertise their presence. There is far too much going on in the Toronto sports scene for me to remember all of them. That said, no amount of ads and publicity will ever have me venturing to Brampton.

Don't worry about him, he is gone for a week and may be gone longer.

There are also a plethora of immigrants, and many of those immigrants come from parts of the world where hockey is either irrelevant or non existent. It takes time to win them over, and a lot more time when the team sucks as bad as it does.

Hell, there is even a punjabi hockey telecast here that is trying to lure more fans of ethnic culture.

True, this is part of the reason why TFC has had such support even though they're terrible. Also a lot of people whose family background is UK, Italian, Portuguese, etc and they are way into soccer. Or most of the dudes I know who are Guyanese, Nigerian, etc are into the Raptors.

Thank you. I don't get it, a guy's got an anti-Leafs avatar, anti-Leafs location, comes into a Leafs thread and negs for hours on end and then complains that Leaf fans bother him. It just becomes white noise. At least a lot of the other fans that do some chirping in here manage to fit some actual hockey discussion in there somewhere.

Have said this over and over again, people don't seem to realize how many games are being played every night in and around the GTA, right from atom to midget hockey, you have house Level, A, AA and AAA, parents are taking their kids to those games not OHL and AHL games. A lot of competing games going on.

Having essentially lived there for 3 years . . . I think it is a true hockey town. Sure, in that regard it will also always be an NHL town. But hockey is a big deal in YYZ whether the Leafs are up or down.

Agreed. No other city in any other sport supports their team like Leaf fans do. Toronto also is the only city to have all 3 levels of hockey (NHL, AHL, junior). Comparing Toronto's support of their junior teams to that of Brandon, MB or Swift Current, AB isn't exactly fair. You're comparing one city that has 2 other leagues above it that are being supported and so many other different options (NBA, stage shows, NLL, CFL for part of the winter, ect.) sure TO has more population but also has more options. There is only so much time and money to go around.
