Great, so it's very similar to several other hockey markets. That's nice.
Except that they can't support an AHL team or junior team along with with the Leafs like other hockey markets can. Hmmmm...

There isn't another city in the world that has a NHL team, an AHL team and several junior teams. Hell there is only one other NHL city that also has an AHL team. Toronto has more options for hockey than any other city by light years. Not all can be sold out.

OK, so Toronto is the most valuable hockey team in the world. How predictable that that's what you cling to as a Leafs fan. Big deal. The Leafs are worth lots of money. Now what about the attendance factor? You know, the one that demonstrates how many people actually show up at hockey games? Why is it that other cities can sell out just as much as the Leafs do (or even more) and can also support other hockey teams, yet Toronto can't?

Thank you. I don't get it, a guy's got an anti-Leafs avatar, anti-Leafs location, comes into a Leafs thread and negs for hours on end and then complains that Leaf fans bother him. It just becomes white noise. At least a lot of the other fans that do some chirping in here manage to fit some actual hockey discussion in there somewhere.

With the largest minor league program in the world (GTHL), it would be pretty hard, alright impossible, to argue Toronto isn't a 'hockey' town.

Don't think there's much history showing support for any hockey in Toronto after the Leafs.

Yup. Also a whole ton of places to buy hockey gear. And as I recall when Canada won the Olympic Gold the standing room only bar I was in went bezerk along with all the other bars in the city and there was a giant party in the street for the rest of the night. Looked like a hockey town to me. Also a very patriotic, pan-Canadian town.

A lot of competing games going on.

I think the reason that people don't support the Marlies, etc, is simply because we are busy. Everyones kids play hockey and as a parent I would rather take my boy to play hockey and watch him have fun then drive 1 hr to a marlies game to pay $10 for a drink...

Saturday nights the priority is definately a Leafs game, but other then that family life comes first...

Exactly! People have their own lives to live! Pro and junior hockey is not the be all and end all.... I can have just as much fun watching midget hockey and I dont have to pay large amounts of money! In fact, I can bring my own Timmys to those games and wont have to throw them out at the gate...

exactly. and junior or minor league teams that are in small cities with no other options are naturally going to do better than ones in a place like Toronto. If I lived in Moosejaw, I imagine I'd go see the team there for sure. As it is here, I simply don't have the time to go to all the different things.

There are also a plethora of immigrants, and many of those immigrants come from parts of the world where hockey is either irrelevant or non existent. It takes time to win them over, and a lot more time when the team sucks as bad as it does.

Hell, there is even a punjabi hockey telecast here that is trying to lure more fans of ethnic culture.
