I'm perfectly content with Bryzgalov as the goalie. I think he's a very good goalie. He showed he can be dominant late in the season, and even in the playoffs was dealing with an injury that hurt his mobility.

I'm not entirely confident in him. I know a former Vezina finalist doesn't just forget to play hockey, and I know he had a bounceback second half last year, but I think his inconsistency on the whole leaves room for a bit of concern. It's definitely one of those, "I sincerely hope I'm wrong," feelings, and if I am I'll be among the loudest cheering for him.

However, I think it's mean and unnecessary to say, "He should just keep his mouth shut." The things he's said were silly and inoffensive, anybody who takes issue is just looking for something to complain about. The guy likes to jest, let him jest a bit. If his humor truly has any negative impact on his game, it'd be from stress over people telling him there's a problem with it.

Its not offensive at all really. It should be a non issue. However he should know best of all that little comments like that blow up into a big issue. The media starts it and it just manifests from there.

For a guy who was obviously stressed out from the media BS last season why wouldn't he just keep quiet. Play the damn game and dont give the media any crap to run with. Which is exactly what he did.

It shouldnt be that way, but it is. I agree that the only reason his humor may affect his game is because of people bothering him about it. It sucks, but thats the way it is. Im one of the craziest idiots out there but there is a time and place. For Bryzgalov he should keep that in check when dealing with media.

If it should be a non issue. Why are you making it such an issue?

And there is nothing he said in that interview that could be remotely described as a big issue.

All he said was he could see some players staying in the KHL, rather than returning to the NHL...not sure how that is anything controversial.

Also not sure how somebody that says in one breath that it shouldn't matter what he says, goes on to rip him for saying something when asked a question, as you did.

Let's face it, Bryzgalov had to deal with more than the "media". He had to deal with a lot of changes, including a passionate and sometimes misguided fanbase, 24/7, a new team and conference and a new system that left more scoring chances for opponents than his old one did.

Even with all that, he posted respectable numbers. The biggest issue was his consistency.

Perfectly content does not equal full confidence. He's bounced back strong from bad seasons before, and last year, he had to deal with a new media that is far more aggressive and "TMZ-ized" than Phoenix. He had to deal with a new team, conference and system. He had to deal with 24/7 and the WC scrutiny. He had to adjust from a fanbase that is apathetic to one that is violently passionate.

It's not just the media that was a distraction for him last year. His track record says he will rebound. It's entirely possible he won't.
