okay then let's compare it with other professional sports leagues/owners. do any of them split their profits 50/50 with the players?
and i agree with your second point. - Why So Serious
Is that a serious question? |

It's not profit, it's revenue. If it were 50/50 on the profit, the max player salary would be about $2M.

I, and no one I know are poor. So the idea that all people that live in Buffalo are in houses with holes in the roof and eat mudcakes is not true. There is still a lot of money here. Enough to sell 766,290 tickets each season.
By poor I meant I feel sorry for that guy who has to spend 300-400 to see a Sabres game on the weekend with his wife and 2 kids.
Also there are quite a few of those 766,290 seats that are bought by Canadians. If it wasn't for Southern Ontario we would be Atlanta. Look at the Buffalo Braves!
I live in West Seneca which is not a poor area by any stretch of the imagination but tickets are crazy if you want to go see a single game against a good or Canadian team.
If you are legitmitately poor, you should have better priorities than buying your family hockey tickets.
This is true and a good point. - Buffalo--Sabres

This seems to be the biggest thing that fans miss: the NHL reported fantastic revenue growth under the just-expired CBA.
That doesn't necessarily mean that they ever enjoyed a profit. |

It horrible that we need to pay that much to see a game. Ticket prices should all be in the 20 - 50 dollar range. Even players like Sid and Ovi could afford to play for 2 million a year instead of 8. If they dont like it let them try to do something else and make that much money - mantosh
Go to a minor league game if yoiu want to take your family to a hockey game for that price. |

Nope. I wonder what the collective profit/loss of the league was last year. I'd be interested to know. |

And if I wanted to see the fans play hockey, I could go watch beer league hockey at Chesswood Arena for free.
And do you know why it is free? Because it isn't worth paying for.
Did he really give Penn State 100 million dollars? What a bastard! I can't believe a guy would make a donation to a university.

First of all I was saying that the owners are trying to suck up to the fans by making players salaries available.
ALL Penn State athletics should be done away with after what was going on there for years and the AD was hiding it.
I am all for a capitalist system but price gouging is a little sick.
The average pro sports contact is about 10 times what it was 20 years. I don't think that the average fans salary has gone up that much. What do you think is going to happen to pro sports if this trend continues?

it will continue to flourish. average fans don't contribute to the growth really. contracts have gone up 10 fold because revenues have increased in kind. the players are deserving of the increase. |

It will either remain sustainable, or it will adapt to market conditions. Player salaries are not directly dictated by fan salaries, not sure why you'd expect that. |

What if player salaries go up tenfold again, and the average team salary is $700M? I’m guessing ticket prices would go to about $2000 a seat, for the cheap seats, no one would buy them, teams wouldn’t be able to pay player salaries, and salaries would drop precipitously again. Unless of course there were enough people to pay that kind of money, and then the salaries would stay at that level, and the league would operate like it does today, just with higher salaried players.
Supply and demand. You sure you understand what capitalism is?

And why hasn't the average fans salary gone up that much? It's all about what you can command in the market you work in. And what you bring to a Company in terms of revenue generated. There are numerous souorces for player salary information. Including League, Team, players, and Agents to name a few. |

My kid is grown up so he pays for his own ticket.
Where will the all of sports be in 10-20 years if ticket prices and salaries continue to rise like they are?
Seriously are we going to have to pay $3000 a ticket in 20 years
I paid $ 11 a seat for Flyers seasons in 90-91 10 rows behind the net. In 20 years they have to be at least $100 now. I don't know cause I dont live there anymore but its not out of the question.
So in 2030 are they going to be $1000 a seat ? I think it will be a little empty in there.
That why the ACC looks so dead the only ones that can afford the platnums or golds don't give a poo about the game.

Also makes no sense that those same people complain about the bloated salaries the players make while continuing to support the sport and the league by watching and going to games. Quite puzzling. |
